How are you doing it? Anything out there to keep up with each record played? ( I haven't found any technology)
I've been writing it (average 45 mins per side) but that's tideous.

I just check the stylus under a microscope every few months or so to keep track of stylus wear if that's what you mean.

Heard some members using those number clickers, representing each as an hour.

I have a piece of paper taped to the side of my stereo cabinet and I put a tally mark every time I drop the needle on an LP side.

Sounds like its durable. I'd say most albums on average is 40-45 mins so for every 4 albums played it's an average of 3 hours.

I use a counter clicker. 1 click every side. So I just divide my count by 3 to get the hours - in the ballpark, on my cartridge.

It's great. The one thing though if you listened to each side and it totaled say 40 mins then one click has you short 20 mins. You'd have to remember to play an aditional side at a later time and not count it to complete the 60 mins.

Can’t you get a total time by selecting all the audio files on the disk and looking at properties?

You could just download a free app on your phone otherwise...

Sorry silly question, but I’ve heard different stories about Cartridge wear. From “I’ve had the same cartridge for thirty years” to “after 400 to 600 hours the stylus will be damaging the vinyl”

If I bought (in my dreams) a Goldnote Tuscany cartridge for £750p, I would want it to last for life not 400 hours, which is a couple of years maybe?

How long do you guys find you need to swap out cartridges due to stylus wear in terms of hours played? And secondly do more expensive cartridges last longer (different profile maybe)?

What you want and the reality of it are separate. The best styli last around 500 hours until distortion starts occuring in the audible frequencies. You may not hear it but its there and those frequencies wear more than necessary.
Better shapes last longer yes, the conicals are only good for 200 hours or so but those are so badly fitted in the groove that youre already getting distortion from hour 1.
Listening to 2 records a day equates to about 500 hours every year.
This is 1 argument for not going MC, you cant change just the stylus.

Here's what I use. $6.00 on Amazon. I click it once for each LP and assume each LP is 40 minutes.

I use a tally app on my phone. Lets me do multiple counters for different cartridges. I count 20 minutes on average per side.

I would have bought one of those but I have kids. They could care less about my turntable and records but that clicker would be gone in a heartbeat.
