Snub: Apollo 11 not nominated for documentary. I guess it was too popular.:thumbsdow

  2. Jojo Rabbit probably doesn't have a chance, but nice to see it got a Best Picture nomination. Maybe that'll prod a few more people into seeing this great film.

  3. I really don't get the term Snubs here. Voters vote and the top 5 or 10 get nominated. Now if you want to expand the voting pool, then that's fine. People are voting for someone rather than against ... usually.

  4. Adam Sandler deserved a nomination.

Best film ? - as in my thread starter back in December, I still hope Joker or Tarantino win out over The Irishman. I like Scorsese a good deal, but it seemed a bit tired. I enjoyed Ford vs Ferrari very much but it probably only has a shot in the technical categories. I’m seeing Little Women and Jojo Rabbit over the next couple of weeks, 1917 has only just opened here, and we don’t get Parasite in cinemas/theatres here until early February. Will see both in due course. I still don’t get the love for Marriage Story - very predictable. I thought The Two Popes should have got a best picture nod.
In any case, and despite the supposed snubs in various categories this year - a much better list than 2019, movies like Green Book and Beale Street were quite dreadful. I know why but it’s still crazy that Roma didn’t win best picture.

It's going to be Pesci all the way. Pitt has another 50 movies in him. ' The Irishman' will be Pecsi's last bow.

Surprised by the two nominations for ScarJo. Hopefully she'll get at least the supporting actress award. Don't think there are many chances to beat Zellweger for "Judy" (great performance portraying an iconic Hollywood legend, I'll be shocked is somebody else wins)

Would have loved to see Mr. Raskin nominated for his work on "Once upon a time in hollywood".

    My predictions... for today

"1917" to win director, picture, cinematography, production design and visual effects (but it would be nice to acknowledge Marvel's "Endgame")

"Once upon a time in Hollywood" - original screenplay and supporting actor

"Joker": awards for best actor to Phoenix and adapted screenplay

    "Little women" - costume design

"Toy story 4" - animated film

"Rocketman" - award for Sir Elton's song.

"Judy" or "Maleficent 2" for makeup and hairstyling

"Star Wars : the rise of Skywalker" - award for John Williams' score

the rest...who knows..especially the supporting actress award; imho they all have a chance.

Hope so, is Pitt that good in it?
Never found him to be more than an adequate actor. Going to watch the movie this week.
Also that's true that when they are nominated in the 2 categories like Scarlett Johannson this year it can cancel them out.

No editing nomination for 1917 because no one could tell how much work the guy actually did. ;)

Pitt does have an Oscar as the producer of 12 Years a Slave.

Pesci is the only clear-cut supporting performance of the five. Pacino’s role is somewhere between lead and supporting, and the other three are clearly leads.

  15. Pitt is really great in Hollywood (not a showy part) but Phoenix is better. Sort of not fair to compare though since Joker is a more showy character.

I don't usually care about the Oscars but I just want Tarantino to never win one for director or one of his films to get best picture. He is already an insufferable twit now, just imagine if he won an Oscar.

Double laugh for me on both these observations. Especially. Ford v Ferrari.. It’s probably on there so Christian Bale will show up.

I think the appearance of being two shots knocked the editing chances aside...
