I went down a wormhole of Ricky at the Globes...someone compiled a collection of all his appearances.... the last one is only audio here but available elsewhere....fun to watch Hollywood react, some seem to love it (deniro) others....not so much. he was always barbed but it seems the last one he took it to new levels

I'm over this episode, but I highly recommend After Life on Netflix if you really want to see Ricky Gervais shine.

This has to die off soon. I don't even watch TV, and am sick of hearing about this.

Ricky's After Life series is very good. Funny, sad, angry, and touching sometimes all at once. I can't recommend it enough.

I thought he brought some edge and humor to the otherwise dull, insincere, mutual admiration society world of awards shows.

He was funny and I didn’t think it was over the line. Hollywood takes itself far too seriously.

Here's my thing with Ricky Gervais.

He's a funny guy but the barbs lose a little of their impact after you take the highly-paid Golden Globes gig five times. In the end he is a Hollywood guy himself.

Gervais has always been controversial on purpose. Didn't he say to Kate Winslet in "Extras" all you need to do to win an Oscar is to make a holocaust movie? And Winslet did win an Oscar for The Reader several years later.

This is very true but at least he takes a few shots at the industry. Howard Stern used to be funny, pointing out the hypocrisy, hubris, and self-importance if Show business. Then he got on a big network TV show and over time he was completely defanged. Once he started to defer to the stars too much his humor lost a lot of its spark.

I think it says a lot that they feel the need to bring him in every now and then.:D
I see it as less taking themselves too serious, and now more as unapologetic for their frequent circlejerking.
