I like to compile these fun little CDs and I got the idea for this one. Here's a few I thought of so far:

Stumblin' In - Suzi Quatro and Chris Norman
Something Stupid - Frank and Nancy Sinatra
Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John and Kiki Dee

  2. David Bowie/Bing Crosby

Neil Diamond and Babs, "You Don't Bring Me Flowers"; most significant, in that, it didn't actually happen. It was just a guy in a studio, outside of the record industry, who put the two recordings together. Eventually the label saw the light, and put it out.

Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash: Girl from the north country

(not sure if it would count here, as there are more duets on the recent bootleg release. But as Elton & Kiki did another duet in the 90s, it may fit the bill)

Elton John and Kiki Dee had a few duets. None of them hit as big as "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," though.

Is there any information on record as to how this thing actually came about? I have always wondered. That is the real David Seville/Ross Bagdasarian doing the Chipmunk voices, apparently for one of the last times?

I guess Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes "Up Where We Belong" is a little out of your timeframe.

I think the only track on "Rough Mix" which Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane actually sang together was "Heart To Hang Onto".

Not sure if this qualifies: Alice Cooper and Donovan Leitch on "Billion Dollar Babies."

Finally, one from the 80's, but I like it, so...Meat Loaf and Roger Daltrey, "Bad Attitude."

Obviously, they were on the same record label. After that, your guess is as good as mine.

This idea wasn't unknown -- there was George Jones and Gene Pitney. But what if the concept had been more popular? We could have had:

Frank Zappa and The Velvet Underground
Bob Dylan and Paul Revere & The Raiders
Elvis Presley and The Jefferson Airplane
    Buck Owens and Stan Freberg
The Everly Bros and Bob Newhart
Lenny Bruce and Creedence Clearwater Revival
    Jimi Hendrix and Napoleon XIV

I had no idea about this! How did this this come about?!?! That has to be one of the most inexplicable records I’ve ever encountered on here!
