Honestly, never did like the song and cringe whenever I hear it.

 

Totally get this - first song on the HDD in our car is A-ha's Take on Me so every time it gets unplugged and on again that's what plays. To be fair, it's a much better song than Abracadabra

It's funny, but for so many of the classic rock songs folks have mentioned here, I'll immediately skip them if they come up in the car on spotify or satellite radio. LZ's Stairway is a prime example. Yes's Roundabout is another. But those are just two of many, many others since I'm 60 and grew up on classic rock and heard them all soooo many times.

But.....when I'm home and in the mood and playing classic vinyl rock on my system I can listen to and thoroughly enjoy them all again. Just played LZ IV the other day all the way through and loved every minute, including Stairway! And awaiting the Fragile one step any day now and will absolutely blast Roundabout this weekend! For me, I guess its all about the venue and mood.

Don't disagree at all but as a former radio personality I have to stand up for the DJ's. As I'm sure you know they are just playing what they are ordered to play by the programmers at the corporate giants that employ them. iHeart, the former Clear Channel, just let go of a bunch of employees this week so I expect it to get even worse. I totally agree with your point though. What's frustrating is even the classic rock stations on satellite radio play the same stuff you hear on FM. Sirius XM's Deep Tracks station is a little better but still....It's a shame that a legacy artist can't even get a new tune on classic rock radio.

As for my song that I don't need to hear again, Steppenwolf's Born to be Wild or Spencer Davis Group Gimme Some Lovin'. Or that Lizzo song that seems to be in every commercial, movie or daytime chat show bumper music. I know it's not classic rock but it feels like it.

Try living in Canada were they have to play a certain amount of "Canadian content" interspersed with American music on the radio. It's the same Canadian "hits" over and over and over....

The song, Innocence by Harlequin is especially maddening. If I hear Black Cars by Gino Vanelli one more time I will lose my mind.

 

Every Foo Fighters radio hit.

Unfortunately, that's basically all they play live these days. Used to see them on every tour, but haven't been to a show in 9 years and fear I'll never find the need again. C'mon Dave, hit me with a deep cuts club tour or 25th anniversary tour where you play the first record front-to-back plus b-sides...

 

If I never hear Pink Floyd again with the very occasional exception of DSOM, I'm a happy camper.

 

I like the JF version, and a few others, including the Beach Boys one, but give me the original any day. You could never overplay that song as far as i'm concerned.
