The gadgets were always the last thing I noticed in the early Bond
films. The early Bonds had a lot more going for them than gadgets.
No matter what you hear today, the gadgets were never the main
attraction in the early Bond films.

The imdb synopsis doesn't tell us much:

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica.
His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA
turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist
turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto
the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

The surprise plot twists and turns are said to be butterfly-net krazy.
    Major spoiler:
In Bond 25, Lashana Lynch is the new 007. James Bond retired. Or
thinks he did. Actually he's still in the chair undergoing the brain
drill in Blofeld's fortress, seen at the end of Spectre. Blofoeld is
feeding him a new life. Sometimes he snaps out of it, long enough
to escape, but he can't be sure what's real.

Never the main thing but always a fun cool part of Bond and it all depends on ones age when they saw s Bond film. I was 12 for the first film

say people don't want anything to change - well the sixties to seventies Bond eras saw a MASSIVE change in style and those 'older' fans stuck with it as the films retained a core sense of similarity (two of the strongest sixties Bond films 'From Russia With Love' and 'OHMSS' had very little by way of out and out gadgets either)

    - as many 'older fans' do TODAY still stick with the series mostly out of love for the James Bond film series, being the core support who DO bother to go to the cinema to see what they hope will be a well made entertaining piece of escapism....rather than mere 'agenda box ticking' to please those mind controlling mouthy snowflakes !

re no change - right well we now have gone in a big arc from a (pretty inept) female M....to a male M, plus 'Q', 'Moneypenny', and 'Felix' - so not much change there then from the 'core supporting cast' around Bond - all of those characters were in 'Goldfinger'...as was the gadget laden Aston Martin that Daniel Craig had tucked away in his garage in 'Skyfall' !

good to know how much 'new direction' Babs and co are moving in now - in no way playing on the past established SUCCESSFUL film series history of Bond her father built up....to use as a foundation with a guaranteed audience in place for then attempting to ram home 'Agenda' aspects ad nausium

Not to belabor the issue, but the early Bond films and even the not so early Bond films are terribly dated by other standards -- beyond just the gadgets.

Dated? They were made 50 years ago( under the category of classics).
Thankfully being old myself I can appreciate them. Saying that I’ll appreciate any new Bond films if it entertains ala CR 2006.

I think other classics from that era have aged better because they made an effort to be more timeless. No such pretense with most of the Bond films. This can be endearing but yes they are dated and haven't aged as well as others. If you don't believe me, try watching one with a youngster.

Yeah well .. when a youngster I’d imagine sees a film with actors opening credits at the beginning of the movie he/she will run a mile .. especially if the film in question is in B&W.:)

I want to read the article in The Guardian by Madeline Grant,
but it's locked. Subscribers only. One has to pay for a ton of
stuff one will never read in order to see one article. I can't find
    the text elsewhere, so ....

.... this youtuber reads some of it aloud:

Daniel Craig just really needs to hang it up already and move on.

The overarching sense I got from this video/description is (to use a Doctor Who term) “forced regeneration.”

After this, I’m curious what’s going to be next for the franchise and the character.

Some of the rumored leaks don't sound promising. I really have a feeling this is going to be the first Bond film that I have no desire to see a second time, which is a shame. Craig's run has been up and down but I think Casino Royale and Skyfall are both really great, so he walked away with two classics. No Time to Die looks poised to make Die Another Day look like a masterpiece.

Looks like Henry Cavill doesn’t think he’s going to get the James Bond part now due to delays per se with Covid 19. Pushing to do more Superman films, guess knows where his bread and butter is.

I think we could end up with a PC anti violence non smoking, electric car driving mega polite Bond who 'knows his place'...

....and who only drinks non organic milk 'shaken not stirred'

I wish someone with a lot of money would actually make that film, just to make a point. It would be fun to watch people on both sides lose their minds.

James Bond is written as a Jeffrey Epstein-type predator in the new film.
His aggressive passes are rejected by the women characters in a series of
comedy skits. No doubt Daniel Craig's fans will argue this is the natural
extension of the character for these times and isn't he great at it.
