I'm a fan of the Mission: Impossible movies, and how Tom Cruise has turned into Jackie Chan doing stunts for these movies.

Director Christopher McQuarrie teased that the new Mission: Impossible 7 movie will feature three "obscene" stunts that terrify him: "We've figured out three obscene things that he's doing that I'm terrified of, that make the helicopter chase look like tinker toys."

This is probably a lot of PR hype to excite people about the movie. But what could Tom Cruise do to top himself? He has already done: free climbing, extended breath holding (underwater vault heist), learning to pilot a helicopter to do a chase scene, HALO jump, hanging off the side of an airplane, climbing the Burj Khalifa skyscraper.

Either he's going into outer space, or getting punched for real by Mike Tyson, is all I can come up with. He broke his ankle shooting M:I6 (video below). I hope he doesn't kill himself for his art!

So he's gonna keep doing this, constantly topping himself, until he suffers a catastrophic injury? I mean, there's only one way this sort of daredevil stuff ends if he refuses to walk away . . .

Also, when the star gets hurt (for real), the whole show has to shut down and a lot of people don't get paid. It's very bad when that happens.

  7. They’re actually good movies. The first one was written by Robert Towne (Chinatown) and well directed by Brian DePalma as a gun for hire. The second film is the weakest of the bunch (directed by John Woo but also quite different in tone). For a series of franchise films they deliver on their promise for the most part.

I guess I should check #3 and after out. I thought that the second one was so bad I never watched another one.

I will see this on opening day. I feel like the Bond series keeps getting more boring/mediocre while Mission Impossible keeps getting better.

I think Tom is getting to old to do his own stunts, time for a stunt person to do the stunts. His MI films are sure entertaining however.

LOL, yeah, I was wondering if the new one would be rated NC-17 or X. "Obscene" is a poor word choice.

He's going to start on thread on the audio fidelity of cassette tape over on the music forum. It's never been attempted, and with good reason.

I’ve grown to respect his obvious dedication to his craft. It’s undeniably impressive the skills he’s mastered to carry out the stunts onscreen.
He’s not getting any younger, though, and when you have to keep upping the stakes, it could be risky.

Tom Cruise is a weird little man. His range is also limited. I can’t stand to watch him.

Years from now, we'll be saying, "Jesus Christ died for our sins.....but Tom Cruise died for our entertainment!"

love the Mission Impossible movies. only franchise i can think of where the movies keep getting better. "Fallout" was great.

You know what would be a really amazing, no one saw it coming, super duper spectacular stunt? Making an original movie with a compelling story.

He's far from a great actor, but he definitely gives it his all. I can't think of any performance where he moved me, but I also can't think of any performance where he phoned it in.
