What's a beloved song of yours, and which version (studio, live, outttake etc) do you love above all others?
    Two of mine...
Thin Lizzy 'Still In Love With You' from Live And Dangerous
Bruce Springsteen 'Thunder Road' from Hammersmith Odeon, London '75

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

The version of Steve Harley's 'The Best Years Of Our Lives' on the 'Face To Face' double is way more emotive than the studio version. Love it to bits.

"Gentle On My Mind" by Roger Miller - While I like a number of versions of this song, this version is my favorite.

"If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind" by Agentha Fältskog - I found this song on her album My Colouring Book and it became an instant favorite and it is a very emotionally moving song for me. However, I've heard a number of versions of this song and all of them left me cold.

"Gotta Pull Myself Together" by The Yearning - Although I liked the version by The Nolans, this version with its very lush "Wall Of Sound" arrangement was terrific.

"If I Can Just Get Through The Night" by Sissy Spacek - It is on an album that was released around the time of her movie Coal Miner's Daughter. While the album featured mostly country-style songs, this was an outstanding pop song.

"The Night Has A Thousand Eyes" by Connie Smith - While the Bobby Vee version is a classic, I like the country twang that Smith adds to this song.

"Who Was It?" by Norman "Hurricane" Smith - I like this version over the Gilbert O'Sullivan original. Among the changes was that this version made things direct that were just asides in the original.

    5 quick ones...

1.Dylan / Visions Of Johanna (Live -66)...IMO this haunting atmospheric acoustic version far outshines the BOB cut

2.Stones / Midnight Rambler...from the boot Live'r Than You'll Ever Be - Oakland 69 is the definitive version & some of the best prehistoric rock as theater ever recorded

3.Little Feat / Teenage Nervous Breakdown...lifted off the Hoy-Hoy 2 record set, this searing live version simply crushes any others & proof Little Feat could rock out as well as get the Jazz-Funk cooking

4.Roky Erickson & Explosives (live) The Wind And More...taken from "casting the runes" this bone crusher stomps the original studio take like a cockroach, comparable to Stones / Street Fighting Man live circa 69-70

5.Who / My Generation...LAL version with Townsend playing off his echo from venue was exhilarating & mythical, remains some of the hardest rock ever performed by anybody

OK I'm a blasphemer... But this cover may be better than the Gram Parsons original

Speaking of Ryan, I love his version of "Wonderwall," but not the one by Oasis, (who I dislike generally.)

I heard Debussey's "Claire Du Lune" the other night used in NBC's New Amsterdam, and I was reminded how much I love the Tomita synthesized version.

This is great version. The original will always have a special place for me as it was the first dance at my wedding, but this is fabulous. I'm also a big fan of Evan Dandos 1000$ wedding from the same disc.
