If you were hitting San Francisco what record store would be a must visit? Looking at vinyl purchases mostly....

I recall a similar thread from a few years back...
But I’d shudder to think that some of the stores have closed since.

Amoeba is a must, but seriously please drive right down the same street from Amoeba and on the left hand side you will find this place that I have been to many times and I have found a LOT of great vinyl (especially some great 45's) at ...

Good advice, suggesting he go to the Haight store twice.

@Chester0711, if you are in the AMOEBA and ROOKY RICARDO'S area, you are also VERY close to doing a great little Rock n' Roll house sightseeing. The old houses that once belonged to the Jefferson Airplane, is just a few blocks from AMOEBA, while The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin's old haunts and houses are on the way up to ROOKY'S, plus don't forget the famous corner of Haight & Ashbury!

I should have called out that Amoeba was a given. Thank you anyways, it confirms it. Rooky’s looks cool too....

I went there twice on my last visit. Picked up some new arrivals on my second trip that I didn’t see on my first trip. It’s worth it!

Not in San Francisco, but close enough. It's a great store.

I've never been particularly impressed with Rooky's, but some people really like the place. My best friend told me that Rooky was seriously considering closing down, and my friend would know, as he knows Rooky pretty well.

But Amoeba is KING -- if you don't go there, you haven't been to San Francisco for records.

I walk or drive past the Tower on Bay and Columbus every day on my commute to work. It's now a Walgreens and the parking lot is an EV charging station, but some of the old wall murals are still there.

A word of warning: do not refer to "The City" as San Fran or, worse, Frisco!

Whenever I'm in the Bay area I usually make my way out to Amoeba and Rasputin in Berkeley, they are right beside each other on Telegraph. While I'll admit my biggest hauls are always Amoeba in SF, I always do find a handful of gems at the other two that weren't in stock at the Haight Amoeba.

On Market is Grooves similar too Groove Merchant and Rooky Ricardos. Jacks Record Cellar on Scott st is cool. Only open Saturday.

Take Bart to Berkley and go near the campus and hit Aomeba and Rasputins. Worth the trip.

I forgot Originals Hayes and Fillmore. Similar small lp shop like those above.

Valencia st has a few hip type ones.

But besides Aomeba and Rasputins the one not to miss at 30th and Mission is a great shop Good prices on new lps Thrillhouse Records.

Rooky's is on the same block as it used to be, but now it's across the street (same side as Amoeba). To be clear -- they aren't in the same neighborhood. They are about a mile and a half from each other.
