Spies Like Us ranks right next to Freedom in my book. And that's not a good thing. LOL

I always enjoyed My Carnival though

It's a silly song for a silly movie. There's nothing wrong with that, but neither the movie nor its theme song would ever be mistaken for great art, even in the world of lightweight comedy. That said, it was his last U.S. Top 10 hit (not counting recent collaborations in which Paul was really just a guest star).

I think it's fair to say Paul was pretty much lost artistically in the mid-'80s. Even more than the stuff we've been discussing in recent days, I'd say Press to Play is Exhibit A for this.

Depending on if Bemagnus is British or American, I hope he’s not gonna forget the single that pulled the UK All The Best! compilation...

I didn't realize it was his last Top 10 hit. That's sad.

    My Carnival

A carnival song. A tribute to New Orleans with great vocals, a lot of fun and music...

    Lyrics:

    It's my carnival, it's a lovely day
Well, it's my carnival, it's a lovely day
Well, all you people getting ready to play
I want to hear you say, come on down
This is my carnival, it's a lovely day

    It's my carnival, it's a lovely day
This is my carnival, it's a lovely day
All you people getting ready to play
I wanna hear you say, come on down
    It's my carnival, it's a lovely day

    It's my carnival, it's a lovely day
This is my carnival, it's a lovely day
All you people getting ready to play
I wanna hear you say, come down
This is my carnival, it's a lovely day

It's is my carnival, it's a lovely day
It's is my carnival, it's a lovely day
All you people getting ready to play
I wanna hear you say, oh
    It's my carnival, it's a lovely day

" Exhibit A"? What is this -- is ' Press To Play ' on trial? Good ! Let the witnesses for the defence and the prosecution state their cases.

Who Cares is on a toll everyday because that's the way he rolls...

    More about Who Cares :

He is such an integral part of this thread you would think he was here from the beginning . Wrong ! This thread started Sept 11. Who Cares made his first appearance on Oct 6.

In Who Cares first post he called this a " nice thread " He went on to complain about the absence of mention of Macca's ' Family Way ' soindtrack.. Out host told him he didn't consider it a solo album.

As only Who Cares can in true Who Cares form , Who Cares then submitted a lengthy post on ' The Lovely Linda '. Oddly , unlike Who Cares , there were no multiple versions , outtakes or cover versions posted for it.

And this thread thereafter improved greatly.

Spies Like Us is perhaps the most unmemorable and mediocre single Paul McCartney has ever recorded. Even though it was a hit and got some radio play I still can't recall exactly how it goes. Just remember a lot of "Spies like us" being repeated over and over at the end.

Sticking Out Of My Back Pocket – ‘My Carnival’

"Paul told us: 'I just loved the style so much that I composed something called 'My Carnival' and it’s got the same riff, basically, that he plays… I just couldn’t play it as well! But it’s the bass line definitely [sings Professor Longhair-style bass line]. It was very similar. So I thought, well I can’t just rip him off and have him find out about it and think, "Oh, he’s just ripped me off!" So I’ll invite him to the session and be honest about it! So I did and said: "Hey listen, you’ve totally influenced me, but I’ve done this song".' "

Well, it’s as if the 80’s OD’d on itself.
For those who think Wild Life is mediocre amateur wanking, think again.
At least I hear melodic music performed with passion on there.

I'm just hoping he doesn't forget Simple As That and Twice In A Lifetime.

And since we're really talking film songs like Spies and Twice, I guess we've abandoned hope of doing Did We Meet Somewhere Before? It was technically in the Rock N Roll High School movie.
