One of my favorite listens from Miles fusion, Jazz-Funk, urban voodoo & experimental era... I'm looking for a upgrade to my original pressing but I do have the Japan DP series for my digital Big Fun fix
Two demented mutant suites of Top Forty songs from the 60's. And that artwork... Yes, The Residents could be pretty bold.
Ordered it today. Looking forward to hearing it. Finishing up the Miles Quintet Complete Plugged Nickel set at the moment. Listened to the 3 sets from the first evening yesterday, and then the four sets from night 2 today (on set 4 at the moment). Consistently terrific.
Any particular CD or SACD version that you would recommend? I've streamed it before, so I already know I like it, but just haven't gotten around to picking up a physical copy somehow.
...this one sounds good and can be had for cheap. I also like the mono disc in the Atlantic Mono box. John Coltrane – Olé Coltrane Label: Atlantic Jazz – 1373-2 Format: CD, Album, Reissue Country: US Released: 1989 Genre: Jazz
According to our host, Mr. Hoffman, the best sounding digital versions of all the Coltrane Atlantics are the original Atlantic CD releases because they are flat transfers. I have them all and absolutely agree. They can all be had for a few bucks, and are well worth getting.
I'm competing with a party close by... the 'loudness wars'--pretty competitive so far. Manzanera is cutting loose on Amazonia now, come on Phil I need you more than ever, some glistening echo-laden drenched feedback please.... plus a Dream Syndicate double on the rx... calibrate, lock in, and send the guitar chaos home, Karl Precoda is simply burning it all down, bridges and all, need to settle down the base a little lol... I got some John Coltrane on the stereo baby Make it feel all right I got some fine wine in the freezer mama I know what you like I gonna take it, turn it, set it loose We gonna learn about love on a three ply rug Don't tell me anymore bout the Civilized world baby It's just you and me Oh what do I gotta do to show you The way that it's gonna be ``John Coltrane Stereo Blues--Dream Syndicate '84 Take me back to the fabulous Sunset Strip... one of the live record greats.
Thanks, ordered the mono box. Giant Steps is the only one of those albums I already have, and I believe my CD copy of it is stereo, so at least it's not a duplicate of the same mix.
The thing is about Ole for me is the title track is so fantastic that I sadly often overlook the rest of the album.
Which is bleeding great. Curiously, the first time ever I listened to "Dahomey Dance" was by Tom Scott and the LA Express.
I'm a huge fan of those records in mono, but the original Atlantic CD's are the best sounding digital versions I've heard. I have a few of the original mono records, but have never heard the mono CD box.
I have six or seven of his albums plus the Rhino 2CD anthology, but it seems that my Fahey collection is quite measly compared to yours.
I have not yet explored The Residents’ music outside of a few random tracks here or there. I’m sure that I’ll become obsessed once I do.
