As for the covers I like Kirk Hammet’s live version during his solo on Metallica’s 88-89 Tour.Projects even more intensity than blues only dudes.

I haven't heard that many but I like SRV. Tuck & Patti have done some great Hendrix covers as well. Derek & The Dominoes was the first one I heard back in the 70s.

    The original version is incomparable.

I always liked Concrete Blonde’s cover from a 1990 b-side which featured drumming from Roxy Music’s Paul Thompson.

Original. SRV's is good, but I think he should have sung it. D&TD version is good because it's different.

    The original.

My favorite cover has always been the live version by the Meat Puppets below:

The one on the original In The West lp (also purple box), the date escapes me but it’s hands down the best.

As stated above, the original is incomparable
but the Derek & the Dominos version is quite distinctive and is probably the one I was most exposed to .... the Layla LP got played a lot by the "adults" when I was a kid in the early 70s.... though Axis was around too.

I love the original for its mellow sound and watery, iridescent guitars, but I think the soul and passion Derek & the Dominos lend to the song might make their version my favorite.

    Hendrix's original studio master.

I have never really liked many of its covers. If I have to choose a cover version, probably will go with SRV's instrumental take.

My favourite too. The original version from Axis isn't far behind (too short!).

I like SRV's cover but nothing else.

Came here to post the Meat Puppets version. Not that it's the best version, but it's the Meat Puppets!
2/3 of the band may/may not be on acid.

    Same performance, different camera:

I swear by the original Hendrix studio version, with the Albert Hall and Winterland live versions runners up.
Don't enjoy any cover version but can tolerate the Derek and The Dominos cover because it's so different as to almost be another song.

The only three I ever liked were by Stevie Ray Vaughn, Derek And the Dominos and the Sting one...
