This is more an archaic usage than a true error. The apostrophe here does not denote possession, but a contraction (in the same way as the apostrophe in "can't" stands in for the letters "n" and "o". However, treating numbers ("90" instead of "ninety") as contractions has not been standard in British English since at least the 1980s.

I don't understand what you mean.

What numbers does the apostrophe stand in for in 60's, 70's etc?

Are you getting confused with '60s, '70s - the correct usage.

No confusion here. It used to be standard British English usage to treat numbers themselves ("90") as contractions of the word they represent ("ninety"). As such, the apostrophe indicates that a contraction has taken place; it doesn't directly replace anything. However, as noted, this usage is now very archaic and almost nobody today would render "90s" as "90's".

Gimme Dat Ding...the Pipkins/Sweet split LP...the grammatically correct version would be "Give Me That Ding"

Spelling and punctuation are part of writing. Writing is not language. Grammar applies to language not to writing itself as it exists without writing. Even a simple everyday dictionary definition of grammar will not include spelling or ideas about how language is written down. E.g 'Grammar : A set of actual or presumed prescriptive notions about correct use of a language'

Considering In a Gadda da Vida is supposed to be In a Garden of Eden, I'm not even sure what to say about that, grammatically.

This is a variation on the way British rail services in recent years started to announce the imminent arrival at a station. 'We will shortly be arriving into XXXX'. No! 'Arriving at XXXX', yes. 'Pulling into XXXX', yes.

Yes that's right, why I pointed out
orthography, not to give the OP grief.
Seems we're free here to offer spelling, punctuation, or other peculiarities of style.

I don't want to give anyone grief, least of all the OP, who actually made his intention clear when he offered an example that was clearly grammatical, not about spelling. I know we have to accept that this kind of thing happens on the forum, but at the same time, I feel that there is no harm in trying being clear about common and accepted usage of this/any language we share.
