Mike Nesmith covered Eric Clapton's I Looked Away on his Nevada Fighter album. Nez's version is sublime using Red Rhode's pedal steel in-lieu of Clapton's own solo.

Trying to rigorously stick to "recording artist in my top 20 or so fave artists, and REALLY adore their cover, more than nearly any other version" and not just "random list of cover versions I dig" but there really aren't that many. But some:

Beach Boys version of "I Can Hear Music" (Greenwich-Barry-Spector)
Neil Young's version of "Four Strong Winds" (Tyson)
Ramones version of "Needles and Pins" (Bono-Nitzsche)

  9. Ian Matthews: Seven Bridges Road (written by Steve Young)

An arrangement later 'borrowed' by The Eagles, some of whose number were friends of Ian's at the time and who had a copy of Ian's album 'Valley Hi'

Elvis C. - My Funny Valentine.

I was seventeen or so, and my Mom, who was generally sick of my music, leaned her head in and said, "Now THAT one actually has a good voice."

They're very good at interpreting others' songs aren't they?

    A couple of faves:

    Peter Gabriel's Secret World
    Dire Straits' Tunnel Of Love

I love their versions of Richard Shindell songs too. :righton:
