At sixty-four years of age , I consider myself somewhat old. But this Number One hit in 1955 predates me!
I know there's a few old timers on this forum and I was curious if they remember hearing this on the radio at the time. It was quite a big hit.
I remember the TV show vaguely but not even sure if this was the theme song from it.
Also curious if the younger members know this song.I'm guessing they might.
Also curious if anyone even gives a damn about something like this.

" Davy , Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier..."

I was a year old when this rode the charts so no, don't remember it from that year but it was probably 4 or 5 years later when I did hear it while watching the TV show so I'm guessing it was Fess Parker's version. There were 4 acts that got on the charts with this one and all made at least the Top 20. Bill Hayes was first and had the #1 hit. By the way, he's still with us, in his 90s and occasionally still acts on the soap Days Of Our Lives. Remarkable!

I had no idea he was still with us. Or that he was a soap opera actor.

I wish I still had my official Davey Crockett coon skin cap. I don't specifically remember doing so; but it's not unlikely I threw a tantrum until my folks bought me one.

Davey... Davey Crockett; King of the Wild Frontier.

I'm not sure why I think I remember it. Maybe I heard it on the radio as a kid, I think it was the kind of song that was everywhere and hard to miss if you were alive.

Interestingly it was the first track on a cd-r I had in the car a couple of days ago. I made the cd-r probably 20 years ago. As I was listening I thought that some of the lyric wouldn't get a pass today, but

He went off to Congress an' served a spell
Fixin' up the Govern'ments an' laws as well

    made me smile sardonically.

I'm 71, and, aside from a few songs my mother used to sing, the Davy Crockett theme is my first musical memory. Fess Parker's tv Crockett was my first hero, followed in time by Roy Rogers, then Zorro. Had a faux coonskin cap.

"kilt him a bar, when he was only three"

    Good times.

When I was a little kid in the late 60s and early 70s, I mainly played my mom's collection of 78s and 45s from when she was a teenager. This was one of the 78s, and I greatly enjoyed it as a kid then.
The collection also included Elvis, Little Richard, Fats Domino, the Everly Brothers, and Ricky Nelson. My mom had pretty good taste.

I learned the song from this old commercial when I was little, can't believe it was on YouTube. It took a while for me to find out that it was a rip off of the original. But even today I still find myself humming the tune.

This was exactly the kind of reply I was hoping for. From someone who was actually on the scene so to speak.
    Thanks for posting.

Sure, I remember all that Boone and Crocket stuff, but I was always a Kit Carson guy myself (only half joking).

Yup. I had one of those yellow 78 kids records with the theme song (along with a lot of other Davy Crockett memorabilia) and I've been obsessed with Crockett my whole life. Fess Parker covered the song a couple of times on record, including on an album he made for RCA in the '60's during the Boone show era. I met Fess in 2004...a highlight for me.
My interest eventually expanded to the historical David Crockett.

My first + middle names have the same number of syllables and accents as "Davey Crockett", so when I was a little guy my Dad used to sing me that line "Davey... Davey Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier", except he'd substitute my name. Thanks for the memory!

I also grew up with the show, had the raccoon hat and a silkscreended T-shirt. Here's a favorite versions of his ballad.

I was Crockett crazy growing up, even had a coonskin cap. I have the two-movie Disney DVD, a fun nostalgic watch...brings back memories of sitting in front of the TV on a Sunday night with the family.

Worth reading if you're a fan: Born on a Mountaintop: On the Road with Davy Crockett and the Ghosts of the Wild Frontier by Bob Thompson.

    Two great Crockett quotes:

“Be sure that you are right, and then go ahead.”

"You may all go to hell and I will go to Texas."
