    I'm surprised to be the first to ask: what's the gear? Is that a turntable on the left with a cover? If not, where's the turntable for all those discs? And the huge box on the right: is that a radio?

    Looks like a shortwave radio on the right. Stewart was a ham? The thing on the left is his Epson printer. o_O

    Happy Memory: The Hallicrafters SX-42 Communications Receiver

    Stewart was a pilot in WWII and retired in 1968 as a Brigadier General of the Air Force Reserve. It would not be a big surprise if he was licensed as an amateur radio operator. But this unit is a receiver only.
