The thing I remember the most was the Dead attracted a different scene. Guys with really long hair for the times, more natural clothing and more out there folks. Not meant in bad way but definitely living free. The parking lot had the early Dead scene, people hanging and lots of commerce going on. My friend described Dead crowd at that time as Surfers and Dopers.
Not my favorite venue. I think I only attended three shows, one was ABB with Duane 71.....last time I saw him.

Regarding Miami counter culture IMOP it was a small scene primarily around N Miami Beach and Coconut Grove. Reminded me of early Atlanta around Highland Ave and Little 5 points. It was a good time to be alive.

I was thinking it was an incredibly large skeleton/basket/baby in front of a normal sized city...

A: The Jai alai boom, movies about truck drivin’ & CB radios, and The GoGD getting jazzily weird.

    Q: What are the mid-1970’s?

Only someone who lived then could possibly be aware of the CB craze.

Or, a few years earlier, of the hit song "The Morning After (from The Poseidon Adventure)." It cracked me up when the elementary school band was practicing that in The Ice Storm. That's the real 70s, not That 70s Show 70s. Of course, no one who didn't live in the late 90s would be aware of The Ice Storm.

Are you referring to the book, or the movie? I’ve only seen the movie, and yes I thought it was a very realistic portrayal of growing up in the 70s in the suburbs. Would like to read the book sometime!

Years ago when you could download shows off the archive this was one of the first batch I downloaded, along with Cornell 77, Portchester Feb 71 and RFK June 10 73. All quite good choices.

The movie. Yeah, it captured the whole feel of the early 70s (suburbia) in an uncanny way. I never realized it was a book first.

Also Dick lauded it and would have picked it at some point, no doubt...

"Code name"? Shouldn't that be handle? ; )

Another nudge to the baby Moses tie-in on the cover art is the way the water is flowing. Not into the shore (and out) like you'd expect waves to, but instead parallel with the coastline...like a river with the bank.

It's not exactly "Convoy," he didn't do a ton of homework...

Seems to me most likely that it's both a jai alai and a Moses reference. Jai alai leads to reed basket leads to Moses. It's looking like a great year for Dave's Picks artwork

    Beat me to it.

I wonder what it would have been like had the Dead taken the Fall on tour to open for them during their summer tours?

Yeah, I just like the whole preposterous notion of the proposition itself.

If you look at the note on that line at my site (link underbeneath all my posts) I said this:

I had to go check after you said that, to make sure I'd caught it...

I would add the Chicago 7/25 show as a necessary piece of the 1974 legacy. It will represent the last Dark Star to be unreleased from '74, and part of a foray into one of the first Slipknplot! Jams, and cool down into an always sublime Stella Blue - especially on the Wolf. But yeah, while they quack like a Dark Star in the beginning, the verses would be nice.
