That is great, has some elements of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits in your version and I mean that as a compliment, love him and DS.

Steve, just an amazing story. Been a member here for years and had no idea about the song and creation, and I spend an hour a day here. Like your own Wonders moment as That Thing You Do is one of my favorite movies: "We wrote it in my apartment back in Sherman Oaks CA"

What a great story. I remember trying to buy a tremolo guitar pedal in that era. No one had one. And I didn’t know what the effect was called. A guy at Spitzers music was real nice said he’d order one. I described it as a surf sound. He ordered me a Boss tremolo I still have. Lime green. That era the stores were filled with electric drums and huge digital rack effects. The old pedals were not popular. And the surf stuff wasn’t on the radar.

A great story, which I recounted to my wife and she nevertheless found it interesting.

I'll use this as an opportunity to plug The Atlantic's Bombora, Australia's greatest contribution to surf music in 1963, IMO:

I’m sure I’m not the only one wondering, how much money do you make from the track each year? You probably don’t want to divulge the info but I thought I’d ask. Maybe I’ll write myself if it’s worthwhile. ;)

I saw him twice and the last time was 4 or 5 years ago and he didn't lose any of his fire- he blew the roof off the joint.

I was asked via PM what microphones I used to record CECILIA ANN. A pair of AKG C 414 B-TL II. Straight, no EQ or direct inject. Mixed flat, mastered flat; just the sound of my little apartment living room..

I lsitened, and recognized it.very 1960s, rather than 80s (not a criticism at all..!)

That was the idea, it was supposed to be vintage. We even made up a fake record company name to put in the credits. Can't remember what it was now.

My buddy was a DJ at our local hangout in the late 90s and used to open his set with instrumentals. This was one of em. Cool story of where it came from!

I had Beach Classics on cassette at one time, it might even still be around someplace. I like the one Pastel Six compilation CD I've had for ages well enough so I might try to get both those 'Surf Legends' on CD, if that's even possible now...

So cool to have been involved in that new vintage style track, I love stuff with that kind of sound! I would've bought a Surftones LP and put it near The Kaisers and The Neatbeats, and nearer The Ventures and Astronauts. Less can be more. Dig that stereo separation!
