They started doing that in like Season 2. The Rino Starr appearance was in Season 2 and off the top of my head he was the first major celebrity to play himself and not an original character. I don't think this hurt the series until later on like Season 10 time and by then the show was already well and truly on the decline.

Homer on Bart's skateboard jumping, then falling down the side of Springfield Gorge from Season Two was probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen on TV.

I can't remember the episode name but it's somewhere in Season 2:

Lisa: "I'm studying for the school geometry bee. If I win I get to bring home a shiny new protractor!"
Homer: "Too bad we don't live on a farm."

My favorite episode of The Simpsons. And, in a later episode, there’s some reminiscing of jumping the gorge, which has a small bit of extra footage.

From Jazzy & The Pussycats - Season 18:

Bart (after learning to play drums then gets bit by a tiger on his arm): I was a great drummer but now I'm nothing. Just like Phil Collins.

I liked when the new German owners of the power plant tell Homer they are from the "land of chocolate" and then Homer checks out of the conversation and into his own fantasy.

I always thought it was so cool- Maggie’s first (and only) word was in a an episode called “Lisa’s First Word,” and it’s one of the best Bart episodes of the series.

Milhouse to Bart after Bart walked in on his parents having sex: "Trust me Bart, it's better to walk in on both your parents than just one of them."

What makes this funnier is if Milhouse is talking about his dad rather than his mom.

Bart goes to Utah with his girlfriend because she's pregnant (by someone else) (This is why the show gets a bad rap - sometimes the plots are just stupid and yet have great lines like this):

Preacher: So how many brides will you be marrying today Mr. Simpson?

    Bart: Just one.

    Preacher: What are you, gay?
