One of my favorite odd CSNY facts is that, of all songs, 4 + 20 has been remixed, not once, but twice for box sets.
Not officially, but some of these were compiled on a high-quality bootleg of CSNY session outtakes: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Studio Archives 1969
Blackbird and Horses Through A Rainstorm were released on the CSN box. "Now (sic!) you got to run" is surely Everybody I Love You. Some of the others were also likely working titles for songs that have been released.
horses isn't horses through a rainstorm? the $20 fine included on the hendrix release? 1969 demo's of so begins the task and the lee shore have been released, are these part of this? why did i think neil young had released 1 song from these sessions? why did i think a studio demo of right between the eyes was released? maybe confusing myself
The September - December 1969 date range makes it kind of vague to what these takes are actually of. I missed "Horses" on that list, but the Blackbird that lukpac mentions as coming from the CSN box set was recorded in February of that year. And the Hendrix version of $20 Fine probably wouldn't be considered for release, since that and that session's "Woodstock" were used more as demos (plus there are CSNY versions of "$30 Fine," including a take on that boot, that would make more sense to use). As to the acoustic demos, I'd have to refresh my memory of when all of those were recorded.
yeah. hard to remember whats what thats officially been released lol. i remember nash mentioned doing a new 4 cd CSN boxset in the book style as the other 4 sets that have been released but who knows whats up with that now. i remember him saying it would be all CSN stuff and no solo album material
Comments on the songs on this list: September - December 1969: Ivory Tower - Early version of Sugar Babe. Has leaked out. Blackbird - We have from first album sessions. Did they try again? Change partners - Version on Stephen Stills 2 recorded in England. But had Crosby on it. 30 dollar fine - Hendrix version released and Stills version has leaked Sea od madness - Studio version has leaked Neil's song - I've heard a bunch of versions of this Beginning - Unknown So begins the task - CSNY version unknown You're wrong baby - Nash Song. Has leaked. You've got to hide your love away (???) - Cool Black Queen - CSNY version unknown Whole People - Leaked as Everyday We Live Steve's song - ????? - Could be the one that has leaked as I'll Be There Master my fear - ??? She can't handle it - ???? Now (sic!) you got to run - Either Know You Got Run (Stills) or Everybody I Love You Sea song - Lee Shore? CSNY version cut in these sessions, released on CSN box with new vocals Horses - in a Rainstorm - CSN Box Birds - A CSNY version would be interesting Right on rock'n'roll (Jan 1970) - That sounds bleak. Has to be Stills, right? You can dance really good - Is this Neil's When You Dance? Laughing - Demo exists. Is there a CSNY version? Everybody's alone - Neil. Has leaked. Same old song - ???? A man's a man (Right between the eyes) - We have a demo and a live version Question why - ???? When you were asleep - ??? Cologne - Why baby why - ??? He died for Mary - ??? Round and round - Was already released on Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Hopefully a 3CD / 4 LP set! CD1 (LP1) - Original Deja Vu remixed & remastered CD2 (LP2) - Demos and Outtakes CD3 (LP3-4) - Live in 1970 (best unreleased live cuts from the era)
and sadly, both songs are a huge disappointment. we waited years for the infamous hendrix/stills stuff......glad we didn't hold our breath.
well nash said he wanted to have the unedited version of the songs like they did with almost cut my hair on the boxset also there has been talk for years about a 1970 live boxset
thank you. i think you are mostly right on this stuff. isn't little miss bright eyes also an early section of sugar babe?
I don't think they released the entirety of that supposed infamous jam session, did they? I thought those were just a few songs that they demoed together.
Just create a good high-resolution 5.1 mix. Imagine how amazing it would be to be surrounded by those glorious harmonies!
Bring on a 50th anniversary set. I’m in. Then a 45th for the Boat album Both sets need complete and uncut live sets
