Los Angeles – May 8, 2020 – To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Frank Zappa’s celebrated but short-lived 1970 Mothers Of Invention lineup, “Portuguese Fenders,” the first track to be released from the new collection, The Mothers 1970 is available to stream today. The newly-discovered gem is one of 70 unreleased live and studio recordings featured on The Mothers 1970, available digitally and as a 4CD box set June 26 via Zappa Records/UMe. Recorded live by Zappa on his own tape recorder on tour in 1970, “Portuguese Fenders” is a rollicking live recording featuring an exhilarating guitar solo by the iconoclastic composer and virtuosic guitarist backed by the revered ensemble. It's about time this line-up got a little more attention. People who can't see beyond the baudy lyrics are missing a lot.

Well now, that's a heartening development in these bleak days. Thanks ZFT!

Just two pre-order options at Zappa.com, which seem pretty reasonably priced.
$59.95 for the CD set; $75.95 CD set plus a t-shirt.

I wish they would also release some of the live video of this line-up. The VPRO show whould be a great place to start.

On the other hand, I'm looking forward to the studio recordings.

[Edit] VPRO was a radio show, but wasn't there a Dutch documentary that had live footage?

Just listened to "Portuguese Fenders" on Spotify.

Good soloing by Frank. Anysley is a monster on that track. Really nice sound for that era.
