I am disrespectful to dirt! Can you see that I am serious?

What a brave corporate logo! I accept the challenge of Mr. Sparkle.

The first 45 seconds of this scene crack me up and a number of quotes in this episode I still use frequently:

Without knowing it I watched The Simpsons episode that had Little Richard in it on the day he died. I saw the thread about Jerry Stiller passing and continued watching The Simpsons in reverse order of seasons and without realizing it again the episode with Ben Stiller came on today. I also saw one where Siegfield & Roy were mentioned a day or two after Roy died, again, without intending to. I also saw a thread about Gem Spa in NY closing yesterday. I'd never heard of it. Last night I was reading a book and it was mentioned.

Edit: Just started watching another episode and it mentioned Brian Dennehy.

Homer: I have a great way to solve our money woes. You rent your womb to a rich childless couple. If you agree, signify by getting indignant.

Marge: Are you crazy? I'm not gonna be a surrogate mother.

    Homer: Come on, Marge. We're a team. It's "uter-us," not "uter-you."

Homer: Oooh! Can I have a brownie?

Marge: No, they're for after dinner.

    Homer: Can I have dinner?

When I was a young stoner working at a pizza joint, I brought a friend over to my house and introduced him to both marijuana AND the Simpsons for the first time. I thought he was going to pass out from laughing so hard!

I used to have an uncanny power that whenever I mention a Simpsons quote, that episode would be on next time I watched the show. I haven't had as many opportunities to test it out lately.
Homer ask the guy for the phone book for Hokkaido Japan, and then he said it's going to use your phone, and the guy says is it a local call?, and Homer says 'uhh, yeahh' and then he dials all those numbers.

You see the library guy run away halfway through him dialing, I always wondered if there was more to that scene than ended up being played.

Homer: Marge I’d like to be alone with the sandwich for a moment

Marge: Are you going to eat it?

    Homer: ……………Yes

Me, too. I faded out gradually over seasons four through seven.

However, there are still excellent one-liners and sight gags throughout the length of the series. This thread is an excellent way to enjoy them without sitting through the increasingly spotty and straining-for-humor episodes.

I stopped watching shortly after the movie (which I thought was incredibly disappointing). Every once in a while I'll tune in, but it's just not the same.

    Maybe it's me.

The tone of the show was changing from dry satire to more openly goofy during that time and I admit it was a bit of an adjustment, so I can see how someone might be turned off. But still I agree the Simpsons seasons 4-7 are an absolute force to be reckoned with.

Yeah, that pretty much describes my views at the time. But you guys are causing me to consider revisiting these seasons. My tolerance for silliness may have increased over time. E.g., I loved Scrubs, which was suffused with goofy, surreal humor. (Although that show became spotty during season 5, after which I gradually faded out watching.)
