And this is the hilarious parody that WBCN (a Boston radio station) did of Springtime For Hitler many years ago.

Mel's line might have been a bit more anonymous in 1968 (though the 2000 Year Old Man records had been big hits), but it sticks out from a mile away in 2020 hindsight.

Along with the original Bedazzled, The Producers is my favourite movie ever.

Since It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World has already been mentioned, here is the trailer for it.

Believe it or not, I never heard of this until around 1975, after Blazing Saddles. My college Jewish gf told me about this movie where they sing about Hitler. I thought she was putting me on. I saw it probably the next year and howled. I love that when they go to meet the gay director he whines about these cliché ways of dressing the dancing girls, then that's the way they're dressed for the Springtime number.

So I just realized that The Producers came out in 1967 and not 1968.

I don't love the Producers, but it certainly broke ground and created careers for Gene Wilder and Mel.

Two "Producers" connections to rock and roll:

Max Bialystock: "Bloom, I'm drowning. Other men sail through life, Bialystock has struck a reef."

"Horse to Water" by George Harrison:

"A friend of mine's in so much misery,
Some people sail through life, but he has struck a reef."

Franz Liebkind : "Der Führer does not say, 'Achtung, baby."

And even the YouTube video titles are saying 1968!

Such a classic, brilliant film. Few films have made me laugh to the point of tears, and this is one of them. The ex-nazi doing his Churchill impression kills me every time; Dick Shawn is great; "I'm a concierge!"; Mostel and Wilder are a terrific team.

I think the key to Brooks' work is his ability to make the silliest scenarios believable and funny. Although he could be hit and miss, he certainly managed to come out with a handful of great movies.

A brief interlude before our next feature film.

From 1963 ... NOT directed by Mel.

I'll start. I love Mel Brooks, I cannot think of a better three movies than The Producers, Blazing, and Young. But I have never "gotten" The 12 Chairs. I am hoping this thread will enlighten me.
