I didn't like the performance, and second I didn't like the sound of the small HIP orchestra. Will not be keeping this disc. Schubert: Symphony No. 8; Overture Die Zauberharfe Heinz Holliger Kammerorchester Basel Sony, 2018
This symphony used to be no. 7. For a long time now, it's been no. 9. So I guess on average the enumeration on this disc is correct.

Ending the evening with two Fantasie works on the turntable tonight -- the Op. 17 from Schumann and the Op. 15 from Schubert. Performed by Murray Perahia on this 1986 CBS Masterworks LP.
I felt like this today. BEETHOVEN: Missa Solemnis - Leonard Bernstein/NY Philharmonic (US Columbia Pittman pressing)
It has been many moons since I last played this fine album of String Quartets by Czech composers Vítězslav Novák (b. 1870) and Josef Suk (b. 1874)... so it goes on the turntable tonight. This LP was originally released on the Supraphon label in 1964. This is a 1966 reissue on Crossroads.
It's been awhile since I bought some classical music and when I read the glowing reviews of these 2SACD sets I ordered them immediately. They arrived today, but I won't get to hear them until tomorrow (a bit) and more on Monday.
Some of the most enlightening notes I’ve ever read. Great performance and sound, too, I’ve become a bit obsessed with Bruckner 9 lately...
I was looking at his recordings of Figaro, Don Giovanni, Cosí fan Tutte and Magic Flute before I bought the Colin Davis recordings but I couldn't find a "Fulfilled by Amazon" copy of Giovanni. (Yes, I could've tried Discogs as well; I've been meaning to test out the site.)
There's a very inexpensive box called "Mozart: The Great Operas" with all four of Mackerras' Telarc Mozart operas. It comes in very plain, white packaging but it's a cheap way to get all of those operas. Good recordings and performances too.
