almost any popular MFSL or DCC gold disc is extremely over-priced. they sellers cannot possibly get what they are asking for these, can they?

I was in HMV this morning and I saw this, just the standard single disc current pressing of Neil Young - Harvest for £39.99. I thought it was an HMV rip off but it's over £37 on Amazon. One of the HMV staff said the suppliers are taking the piss. There's something very wrong somewhere.

Uh, it's in the title of the link. It's in the title of the auction. It's in the auction text itself. So 3 ways to spot it.

I was talking with my friend a few days about this very subject. There's always been over priced records floating around but it seems like there's some really crazy prices listed online. It's not even situations like a record that sells for $50 being listed for $75 but rather 3-4 times what it's normally sold for.

We think it's just people fishing for that one buyer, similar to stores that have that one rare album on the wall that is so overpriced it never sells but that's ok because the seller doesn't really want to sell it type situations.

Suppliers almost certainly are taking the pee, but HMV make it even worse. Most things are a good few quid more expensive in there than in my local indies.

I think the indies get better deals. A friend owns one and he gets amazing deals on back catalogue LPs so he can sell many of them for as little as 2 for £22, far lower even than most of HMVs sales.

That sounds about right. I was going to buy a load of things in the HMV 2 for £30 deal, until I realised that a lot of them were £12.99 each at some indie sites.

It's pretty much the same titles, but the indies seem to get more. The 2 for £22 has a lot of Iron Maiden and Rory Gallagher LPs that are always full price in HMV.

Hot Rats in Sunderland. It's a great shop!

There's also some great shops in Newcastle if you want to do a north east record shop sometime when all are up and running again. Barely any are open at the moment.

I'm curious, if I see a ridiculous price on Amazon, and click on the particular record, does the would-be seller feel a tug on the line and get his hopes up?

Yes , lots of totally unsane pricing, and being paid.

They're crazy prices on CDs on eBay but I guess everybody knows that.
