One LP I should add to my collection and why

I'm new to this forum and I'd like to know what your all time #1 favorite LP is and why it's your favorite. On July 1st I will purchase one of your suggestions for my collection. Thanks!

 

Mark Hollis solo album is my favorite album of all time, I highly recomend it...

 

Hejira - Joni Mitchell
For me, it's the pinnacle of the 5 album run that started with Blue as she moved increasingly towards jazz. Lyrically, vocally, instrumentally and thematically, I can't fault it. Recommended tracks: "Amelia", "Refuge of the Roads"

 

B.B. King - Live at Cook County Jail

This was the album that got me into the blues. Many people would suggest that Live at the Regal and/or Blues is King is a better album, but Cook County is more exciting and the tone is just to die for.

King might be the best singer AND the best guitar player. Just incredible.

 

Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
It’s one of the most immaculately written, performed, and produced albums I’ve ever heard. Side one is one of the most perfect collections of art pop songs of all time, each with its own individual flavor. Side two is an incredible song suite that is at times breathtakingly beautiful and at others wildly experimental.

 

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake.
Because it's a fantastic album and plays as such....front to back for this one.

Why?

It’s music for the ages and it sounds lovely and balanced in its single channel mix.

 

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys

What can I say? It’s about the beauty of life, the promise of the future, the depth of true love, letting go of the past and making those tough decisions. Brian presents these themes wrapped in elaborate and varied instrumentation and stunning vocal harmonies.

A beautiful piece of art by one of the greats minds of a generation.

 

I have favorites, not favorite. Saying that, I'd say Big Moon Ritual from Chris Robinson Brotherhood. It has songs that really become songs you want to hear again and again. It has great sound quality, great artwork. You will get a lot of the same suggestions over and over. This will probably be the only time this album is suggested in this thread. That's ok, it's a great album, and is there for anyone looking for a new "favorite".

ok, you can add this one for cheap. some good tunes and you get an sexy shot of Babs in her skivvies!

 

A masterpiece of ambient / field / drone recordings and other mellow sounds. His music is amazing.

 

Why ? I know you'd hate it; get what YOU might deem your favorite record could be, or at least specify genres so we can focus our choices.

 

STAND UP by Jethro Tull. Why?
Fun, short, sharp songs in varying styles with good lyrics and punchy production.
It even has a cool cover. Don’t hesitate.

 

Swing Out Sister - Somewhere Deep In The Night

Because it's accesible and sophisticated, pop and underground on equal measures.
Because it's trippy and beautiful. It's one of those records made to be listened to with a great pair of headphones in the dark and...bon voyage.

It was never released on vinyl though.

Stadium Arcadium.

EDIT: Forgot the "Why?" Why, because this forum bears his names and these are both incredible masterings. Rumours is one of the top 3 albums of all-time. And this is the best, I've ever heard it. (Early KP pressings are no slouch either!). And Stadium Arcadium is probably the best example of how the same music can sound so much better given a careful mastering job. The LP is light years better sounding than the CD. OH, and it is packed with amazing songs.

Why? Stickers, posters and one the most iconic recordings of the 1970's.

It's cheap and it's just a great record.
