How the elderly are portrayed in drug commercials

  1. Comparing these ads to the couple that live(d) across the street.

The guy nursed his wife for years through some chronic condition (saw her outside once or twice in 10years). She died in her sleep this past year. He's gone from replacing his roof himself within the past few years to a cane to a wheelchair. He looks wrecked. I don't think they ever went anywhere (probably could not).

I don't doubt they are a very common if not the most common type of retirement; managing health conditions on a fixed income while on a glide path to passing. Seems depressing.

It would be interesting to see senior citizen commercials with actors that look like my ex-wife's uncle pictured below. He lived a content and happy life retiring in the trailer pictured below back in '69. That's about 40 years of living without any AC or nice king sized mattress. He'ld sleep on the bench style bed at the front of the trailer and never slept in the guest bedroom. He lived to 92 living on his own land, doing whatever struck his fancy. His personality and speech pattern reminded me of the tin woodsman from the Wizard Of Oz...

We have a friend back in NY who is a big agency model- stunning woman who is now getting older, and she's starting to get these gigs. She's definitely not nursing home material-- more like Charlize Theron with a few age lines. Meanwhile, I don't watch regular TV, only stream movies and tv series so when we are in a joint where the TV is playing- like a dive with good food-- I'm amazed at how many ailments and Big Pharma drugs are available to rectify them.
People age differently. I had a neighbor back in NY who worked with Bill Donovan in the OSS and did Lord knows what after WWII, but when we lived there, he was still driving to the city at night to meet folks for dinner, catch a show and drive home. At that time, he was in his early '90s. I was curious to know if he was still alive, and he is- at the age of 98. They don't make many like that anymore.
I'm a geezer now and enjoy every minute of it. There is a certain freedom to being considered "old." I can crack wise and folks just think-- ahh, just a crazy old dude. I figure if I have twenty or more years left, it's gonna be an interesting ride. I told my wife when I get too gone, just drop me off in the desert somewhere. Sometimes, she looks at me like, hmmm, is it time yet? :)

    I bet they can!

They wouldn't let the lady in the lower right show her hand cause it was "too wrinkly"

Recently a big wig needed two hands to keep the water from ruining his red tie made in China. Lots of applause! Seth Meyers thought the only time you see someone seeking praise for using two hands to drink means the cup had a Minion pictured on it.

Reality: I know you ungrateful kids are not going to spend a dime burying me after I die, when you vultures swarm around picking clean my assets. So I'm signing up for a "final expense" policy that lists a funeral home as the beneficiary, to make sure I get buried the way I want!

Still waving that middle finger to the ungrateful kids after I die.

A Place For Mom is a killer. Bistros, mini movie theaters, gourmet meals, and Joan Lunden! She makes it seem like you’re sending mom to a luxury resort. I’ve been in a couple of these places, bum head. I imagine there are upscale places for mom, but mom better be packing a big juicy bank account.

She wouldn't have that problem if she simply used crepe erase. Just ask Jane Seymour.

I love it when the list of potential side effects takes longer than the actual product they are pushing.Watching the ad's in the states, some of them are more "entertaining" than the programmes.

Always during the national news and the few soap operas that are left that air around lunch time. Surely that’s a coincidence

Good old Wilford Brimley was youngish when he was doing those ads for oatmeal. Although he looked older.
