...man, haven’t listened to this in ages, but @DR.J posting some Stanton Moore got me going back in time. NP One Dark Night I Left My Silent House 2010 ECM CD Marilyn Crispell (p) David Rothenberg (clarinets) Wonderful piano- clarinet dialogues.
Joe Zawinul's debut Money in the Pocket was relatively straight ahead, 1966, just before the "Rise and Fall..." you mentioned. I was listening to the mono. Didn't grab me but I'll give it another spin and provide more detail. I also ended up ditching Dialects, but keeping Zawinul.
Not always. But they do often release AAA jazz titles mastered/cut by the best in the business. I am a newbie as I've just recently joined.
Been a member for about a year now. They release AAA, ADA, and DDA LPs. What's nice is that they always explicitly say if it is AAA. Most releases have full mastering and pressing info. Almost all of the releases under their Classics label have been AAA in tip-on sleeves for the past year and they have said that will continue.
Horn/Griner did the cover for my favorite rock album: Of course, there's jazz influence on this album, particularly that of Coltrane. The Byrds also worked on a version of 'Milestones'. Horn/Griner also did the cover for the Switched-On Bach LP.
NP Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue (Blue Note) AP SACD I haven't played this in a while so it's really sounding great. It's not midnight here yet but it's late enough to enjoy the vibe.
I saw Bill Monroe do that solo, just voice & mandolin. It was at the Tennessee Bicentennial Celebration only three months before he passed away. Very moving. He also danced with Emmylou Harris, which of course was more lighthearted. Carl Perkins was also there, about a year & a half before he died. I had seen Carl once before and Bill a number of times and it was nice to see each of them one more time.
NP Kenny Burrell With Art Blakey - On View At The 5 Spot (Blue Note) 1987 cd Killer band on this one including Tina Brooks.
Good to know you are enjoying the discs, after that long journey. While a morning rain begins to gently fall, probably cancelling my morning bike ride, I am currently giving yet another classic disc a first time spin.
