I've started off today on the quiet side with a couple of Eberhard Weber - first with Fluid Rustle with the wonderful Norma Winstone and Bonnie Herman on vocals, and now this one.
I like Money in Pocket. Joe Henderson on several tracks, Clifford Jordan on one and Pepper Adams and Blue Mitchell, how can it not be good? I have the cd twofer of Money in Pocket and Rise and Fall, which is an inexpensive way to get them
Yes he is leader on both, as pictured up thread, I was just responding to the question is Money in Pocket any good?
New find from yesterday, sounds good! Lionel Hampton / Art Tatum / Buddy Rich – The Lionel Hampton-Art Tatum-Buddy Rich Trio Label: Verve Records – MGV-8093, Verve Records – MG V-8093 Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Mono Country: US Released: 1957 Genre: Jazz Style
Nice wake up call on a Saturday morning. Playing the SACD layer on my Sony Blu-ray el cheapo DVD player. SQ is excellent. Recorded in 1961 and mastered in 2004 by Joe Tarantino. To my ears LaFaro and Motion could be slightly louder in the mix on a couple of tracks, but other than that, for eighteen dollars, this was a great deal. Of course, Bill is his still developing masterful self. Amazing touch on the keys. Easily recognizable and a true innovator. Can't go wrong here. According to producer Orrin Keepnews, in his 1987 book "The View From Within - Jazz Writings 1948 - 1987", Scotty and Bill were arguing constantly during the recording of this masterpiece. Didn't matter.
MelosMusik GS 702 - Siegfried Schwan " Guitaristics" - rec. 2000 - Engineer: Gert Markert German guitarist and composer. Born August 5, 1940 in Ludwigshafen, mostly known as Sigi Schwab. Active in jazz and classical music, he also published several books about guitar playing styles.
Louis Armstrong always traveled with a large trunk containing his prefered music to enjoy while on the road. He could also hide his stash in there. Notice the picture of his wife inside his music trunk. The trunk was custom made and everything folded up inside.
Journey Within released 1967 / In Europe released 1968 Featuring Keith Jarrett, Jack DeJohnette, Ron McClure, and Cecil McBee on In Europe
Another one of many great Jimmy Giuffre Atlantic albums. THE FOUR BROTHERS SOUND - JIMMY GIUFFRE (Atlantic) CD remaster Guitar – Jim Hall Piano – Bob Brookmeyer Tenor Saxophone – Jimmy Giuffre "Jimmy Giuffre plays all four tenor saxes heard throughout this album. The special multiple-recording techniques used here wered devised by Atlantic's chief engineer, Tom Dowd." Album recorded 1958 & released 1959. Sam Rivers - Ricochet (No Business Records NBCD-128) Vol 3 of the Sam Rivers Archive Series. Recorded in January 1978 at the Keystone Korner in San Francisco with a trio completed by Dave Holland and Barry Altchul. Thanks to COVID 19, the album took over a month to arrive, so first listened this morning...very intense and great playing !
I quite often discover new artists (or rather artists new to me) by a process of association. So through Alexander Hawkins posting up a performance of Michael Formanek's The Distance, I became aware of vibes player Patricia Brennan, and through looking at what she'd played on, I picked up on pianist Matt Mitchell whose Phalanz Ambassador has appeared on here a couple of times. And so in the parcels I received yesterday, Mitchell's A Pouting Grimace from 2017 found its way into my collection. Edit - Discogs has just reminded me that Brennan is also on Tomas Fujiwara's 7 Poets Trio album which is another great recent album.
