Joni is certainly worthy of some archive material. Long and distinguished career

There have been at least 4 attempts at a Joni archive box. Now it's happening. :)

Is this something confirmed? I see nothing about it on her site and googleing it only gives that Target link

Looks like Target jumped the gun. It's real and it's happening, but no official word yet. Joni's channels will get updated once the press release lands.

The Target website has also recently revealed upcoming box sets for The Replacements and Ramones too. Turning out to be a very useful source of info about forthcoming Warner/Rhino releases.

  8. I had given up all hope of ever seeing something like this.Beyond excited.
By the Volume 1 title and the dates of the stand alone vinyl releases this looks like a chronological dive into what will hopefully be collections of mainly unreleased stuff.Just have to hope it works to a better release schedule than Mr Young’s archives program has over the last 40 years.

This is the most exciting news I've heard in ages. I actually cheered aloud! Joni is everything to me.

I eagerly anticipate official confirmation and pre-order links!

What is it supposed to consist of? The live sets are the thing I seek out from the 60s. There are a few out there.

and there are plenty that aren’t. The ‘63 album is the earliest known tape of Joni, recorded in a high school. The Canterbury Tapes are also new, part of a recently unearthed trove. There’s more like that in the box.

Would love to hear some live Joni Mitchell sets, especially ones from the 60's/early 70's Neil Young recordings at the Canterbury House are awesome, I suspect Joni's would have that same intimate feel.

'63 album? What's it called? Was there a live track from 63 on a comp?

Does the canterbury show have a title other than "canterbury"?

That's great news, although I'm less interested in her earlier work than I am in her Asylum years peak. Demos and more songs from her '74 tour with the LA Express? Yes, please!

Not much of anything has ever leaked as far as I know. I don't think she was ever as prolific as a Dylan or Young or Springsteen, so I would guess that she's unlikely to have dozens and dozens of completely unheard tracks, but who knows? Especially in later years when she didn't release very many albums. A couple of the tracks on Don Juan's Reckless Daughter were Hejira leftovers (including the title track), so perhaps there are versions of those songs from the Hejira sessions.

Also, she was a professional artist for several years before making her first album, so I would guess that there is quite a bit of material from the mid-1960s that has never been heard.

Neither set is confirmed yet, but based on the Target database, there are apparently Pleased To Meet Me & End of The Century boxes coming in the fall. End of The Century was long expected but The ‘Mats set was a huge surprise. There is some discussion & speculation about it in The Replacements general discussion thread, but really no details (aside from the barebones Target entry) are known yet:
