    SJR Big Boss Man

R.I.P. John Coltrane – the great man died July 17, 1967 at only 40 years of age.

A trio of 'Trane favourites, each one a classic; and each one released on a different label –

The only Blue Note recording by Coltrane as session leader . . .

    1957/2019 (SRX) Music Matters Ltd. ‎– MMBLP-1577, Blue Note ‎– BLP 1577
Blue Note The Definitive Vinyl Reissue Series – KPG&RR@CA

Trane's first album as leader for his new label Atlantic Records, an iconic heavyweight of an album . . .

    1960/2017 Atlantic ‎– SD 1311

Not much to be said about this one, arguably his best-known album and one of the all-time greatest recordings. A majestic, spiritual masterpiece (I look forward to the upcoming AAA release) . . .

JUST COOLIN' | ART BLAKEY & THE JAZZ MESSENGERS (Blue Note Records) CD

A never-before-released studio album by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s Hackensack, New Jersey studio on March 8, 1959, and featuring the legendary drummer, along with trumpeter Lee Morgan, tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, pianist Bobby Timmons, and bassist Jymie Merritt. The 6-song set includes 2 previously unissued compositions: “Quick Trick” and “Jimerick.” (from Blue Note website)

A stunning sounding killer Blue Note session released 51 years after it was recorded - and it is everything I hoped it would be - and more!
The album was mastered by Bernie Grundman & produced for release by Zev Feldman. Playing time is approx 39 minutes. The (EU) edition of the CD is presented in a thin, glossy cardboard gatefold sleeve with a 2 page spread of notes from Bob Blumenthal.

The album is also issued on LP format.

For anyone thinking of buying this record (or just wanting to check it out) be prepared to be blown away!

Marseille | Ahmad Jamal (Jazzbook/JazzVillage) CD - also released on 2LPs.
    with
    Double Bass –
    James Cammack
    Drums – Herlin Riley
    Percussion – Manolo Badrena
    Piano – Ahmad Jamal
Vocals – Abd Al Malik | Mina Agossi

Recorded in France, 2016 and released 2017 in triple cardboard gatefold sleeve.

Recommended listening! I don't have any other Ahmad Jamal albums and that isprobably the reason I failed to check out this very impressive recording when it was issued.

    Not strictly jazz—

Inspired by the Miles Davis title I just played, and named after my home suburb (where it was also recorded), King Gizz produce a Jazz-Fusion / Psych-Pop / Soft-Rock hybrid . . .
