Here's a rarity I wonder anyone saw back in the early '70's called "The Traveling Executioner" starring Stacy Keach...

Saw it in the theater in 1970. Pretty dark and sort of a comment on capital punishment.

Would anyone consider "Hud" a dark movie. It sure was bleak, and while the younger brother makes an independent, good decision at the end, I would not call it a happy ending.

The Butcher Boy (1997) alternates between grim realism and "childish" surrealism. Don't expect "Pan's Labyrinth" though.

I've read that he was incredibly unruly and dangerous during filming and in particular hated certain members of the cast. So I guess he was, in his own way, perfect for the role.

To Die For with Nicole Kidman (more of a dark humor at times)
    Rope from Hitchcock
Leaving Las Vegas was already mentioned but is as dark as they come
Dolores Claiborne from 1995, based on the Stephen King novel
    Reservoir Dogs
    The Departed
    Dead Man Walking

I recently saw a dark movie on Tubi: The Puppet (that's its name in Tubi, but the name shown in the movie itself is Marionette). Per a check of the Internet it is a South Korean movie released in 2013.

Another movie is Time, also from South Korea and released in 2006.

I mentioned it on the horror thread the other day but 'A Dark Song' is about as dark as it gets!

Edit: Also 'Sightseers'. As funny as it is dark.

Steve Oram is the lead male in both films.

Watch the movie "The Occupant" (2011), if you have not already seen it. This is one of my favorite modern disturbing movies.
