In honor of the 70th anniversary of its original singles in 1949, The Complete Birth of the Cool by Miles Davis is being released on 2LP. The record features Miles Davis’ classic Birth of the Cool as well as a second LP of live material from 1948, previously unreleased on vinyl. The package features a wrapped gatefold jacket with laminated coating, as well as a brand new retrospective essay by Ashley Kahn, the author of Kind of Blue: The Making of the Miles Davis Masterpiece. Legendary Jazz saxophonist Gerry Mulligan and Jazz historian Phil Schaap provide liner notes on the project, which were originally published in 1998. The first LP is mastered from analog tape of the original singles for the first time since the original Birth of the Cool release in 1957

I placed an order with UMe during their Father's Day sale. I'm sorry I did, mainly because they are so slow to ship.

I've had to wait at least an extra month for 2 of the 3 items in my order, because they waited until Andrew Hill Black Fire was released so they could ship all three items together. Now I'm waiting another week for the order to arrive via Media Mail.

I could have gotten 2 of my 3 items at the same prices a month ago from Amazon, and I would already have Black Fire in hand with their 2-day shipping. Instead I'm still waiting for all three lps.

Unless they can seriously beat Amazon's prices, or match them and ship in a timely fashion, I am done with UMe.

 

Macca's 'Egypt Station' Explorers Edition, is a miserly £15 smackers. Not bad for a triple disc....

Not sure it's a good deal. $36 plus tax for the 3 LP Macca Flaming Pie. I ordered. These things tend to go cheaper if you wait but this seemed like a fair price.

 

$12 a record seems pretty good to me. I think you did ok.

 

I placed an order with uDisover Music two weeks ago and haven’t received any shipping information, nor has anyone answered my email inquiry as to the status of the delivery. Has anyone had experience with this company? The on-line reviews are quite negative. Thx!

 

Yeah pretty sure everyone here has basically the same experience unfortunately. They are either really understaffed, horrible at their jobs, or both. Piss poor communication and often very late shipping. It is what it is I guess.

 

Thanks for the quick reply. Do they eventually deliver the order? The sale prices are good, although the selection is limited and as we have seen, the communication is virtually non-existent.

 

Oh yeah, I mean, it’s Universal Music so I hardly think they are trying to rip people off. They are just really terrible at customer service. But I can’t say I’ve never gotten my order and I haven’t seen anyone else say they didn’t, though a lot of folks have cancelled because they got impatient... personally I think for the prices I don’t mind waiting. It isn’t ideal but then again it isn’t like I’m hurting for new music either lol.
