Mixing music and time travel Which gigs would you most want to travel back in time for ? The knock you out ones, not the good or even really good. Festivals allowed Starting off with a poignant one Bath Festival of Blues Saturday 28 June 1969 Fleetwood Mac Wikipedia Bath Festival of Blues - Wikipedia It featured a lineup of British blues bands, including Fleetwood Mac (the headliners), John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Ten Years After, Led Zeppelin, The Nice, Chicken Shack, Jon Hiseman's Colosseum, Mick Abrahams' Blodwyn Pig and Principal Edwards Magic Theatre amongst others As many as you like. I have a few to post !
Any gig by Van der Graaf Generator in the "Rockfield Trilogy" era, covering Godbluff, Still Life and World Record. I didn't see any of those. My recollection is hazy on the one Blackmore's Rainbow gig I saw on the "Rising" tour, so if I had to pick one that I've been to, I'd like a do-over on that one, please.
Oasis at Maine Road, Manchester, April 1996 The Jam at Wembley Arena, London, December 1982 The Beatles at Shea Stadium, August 1965 The Who at Monterey Pop, June 1967
I was thinking of ones any of us experienced and were at, but why not ?! Too many missed wonders for me. I did see Van der Graaf Generator at Guildford Uni with Jackonsax and Van der Graaf at Royal Opera House which was a stunner around The Quiet Zone/The Pleasure Dome
Marvin Berry and the Starlighters November 12, 1955 - Hill Valley, CA I'd like to witness the first ever live performance of Johnny B. Goode.
Tons. I was born long after many of my favorite acts had passed their live glory days. The ones I would most have my heart set on seeing if I did indeed get a time machine: 1. The Last Waltz on Thanksgiving 1976 2. Rolling Stones on the 1972 tour of America 3. Joni Mitchell on the 1974 tour with the L.A. Express 4. Genesis' tour supporting The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway 5. Jethro Tull on the Heavy Horses tour 6. Tori Amos on the 1998 Plugged tour 7. R.E.M. on the Green tour 8. A Kate Bush 2014 show (I desperately wanted to go to this but it was simply impossible, financially speaking). 9. U2 on The Joshua Tree tour 10. A stop on the Rolling Thunder Revue. The 1975 leg. I have no interest in going to Woodstock. I'd prefer to go to Isle of Wight 1970, even if the crowd was really rough. I like the performances and artist lineup better at Isle of Wight.
One I was at and knocked out by Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Hammersmith Odeon as was, 1976 Missed Cream at Windsor Jazz and Blues festival 1967 as I wasn't well and went home. Thought I would catch them another time. Fat chance !
Beatle gigs! The QuarryMen show in 1957 when Paul met John The Kaiserkeller gig in 1960 when Astrid and Klaus came to see them. The Litherland Townhall show in Dec 60 where everyone stopped dancing and crowded the stage to just watch Pete Best's last show at the Cavern 1962 Ringo's first Cavern show in 1962 .. that's just a start

I was at the opening night of Tori Amos' 1998 Plugged tour in Ft. Lauderdale. I didn't love it. But I'm mostly a fan of only the first three albums and vastly preferred the earlier solo piano theater shows. I was just a bit too young in 1989 to see the R.E.M's Green tour (I was 14 in '89) so I had to wait until the Monster tour in 1995. Would have prefered an earlier tour but I still loved it. Same with U2, I was too young in the 80's, but in 1992 when I was 16/17, I did get to see the Zoo TV tour several times. So different from the 80s tours, but still nothing I'll never forget.
This thread has been done so many times before, but I'll play along. Going to approach this differently though. My responses aren't going to be fantasy wish lists. This will be concerts that were actually possible to attend but circumstances prevented it. Steve Winwood at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium in 1986. Had a pair of nice seats. Show canceled with no reschedule or alternate venue. This was at the height of his popularity. Robert Palmer at Darien Lake in 1986. Also at the height of his popularity. Don't know why there was no effort to see him. Simple Minds at Buffalo State College, either late '85/early '86. Their star was still rising. Don't believe that they've come anywhere near since? Yes on Union Tour at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium in 1991. Had seen ABWH, 2 years before. Figured that there'd be another chance, but there wasn't. Rolling Stones - SARStock in Toronto in 2003. Was going to be free, then it was only $20. Plus, several other big name acts. King Crimson in Rochester, 1995. It was end of the tour. Had seen them on opening date at UB. Persuaded me to never miss them again if within reasonable distance.
I'm a massive Tori Amos fan and have seen her live three times, just never in the '90s. She still does solo piano shows quite often. Two of the shows I've been to (2005, 2014) were solo shows. The third (2009) was with band. Loved all three. Sorry you didn't dig it, but I'd be in heaven!
