I always wondered if there was ever a solo album by an artist who was also part of their main band, but still ended up recording the album with the band... but it's specifically a solo album project. I.e. if Freddy Mercury had recorded Mr. Bad Guy with the other three members of Queen, with everyone recognizing it was going to be Freddy's solo album.

In case something like that never happened, what are some solo albums utilizing at least two members from their main band? Preferably while they're still in the band but feel free to mention ones where they had already left the band (I believe some solo Beatles albums fit this category). One example I'm aware of is Steve Hackett's Voyage of the Acolyte, from 1975 and has his Genesis bandmates Phil Collins on drums and Mike Rutherford on bass, but no Tony Banks so it comes close at 3/4 of Genesis at the time performing on Steve's debut solo release.

Tom Petty's "solo" albums used quite a few of the Heartbreakers IIRC.

All the Dead were on Bob Weir's Ace album.

In the first round of Yes solo albums, Howe, Squire and White all used different Yes members.

Peter Hammill's Nadir's Big Chance and David Thomas' Blame the Messenger were effectively VDGG and Pere Ubu albums and led to those band's reuniting.

Chick Corea's Touchstone had all of Return to Forever on one track.

Quite a few solo albums from the members of Yellow Magic Orchestra (Yukihiro Takahashi, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono) have the other two members playing on them.

See, I thought more of Rod Stewart. Those early solo albums when he was with the Faces featured a lot of the Faces.

"Jeremy Spencer" comes to mind - the back-up band is Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Danny Kirwan, with Peter Green on one song.

Slash's first solo album "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" under the name Slash's Snakepit featured Gilby Clarke and Matt Sorum, at that time technically still his bandmates with Guns N' Roses at the time

Which leads (with Ray Davies above) to the category of solo-album tracks that later wound up on group albums. "Skinny Boy" is the same on Lamm's solo debut and Chicago VII, just that the latter has horns added.
