On July 31 the Go-Go's will be releasing "Club Zero," their first new original song in nearly 20 years since 2001's "God Bless the Go-Go's" album. The release will coincide with their new documentary that's premiering August 1 on Showtime.

I've always found it disappointing how little material they've released since the '80s even though they've toured often, so while this is just one song, I'm excited. I hope some additional new material will follow.

I can't find any preview of the song, but here's a link where you can "pre-save" the song on Spotify:

And here's a Twitter video of the band talking about it:

And here it is! Fun song, very catchy, and I think it's perfect to go along with their documentary. Belinda's voice sounds a bit different than usual. I'm not sure if it's been processed or if it's a natural change.

Got a touch of Auto-Tune on it. Standard practice these days. But who cares, catchy little song anyway.

Agreed. I wish there was none used but it doesn’t kill my enjoyment of the song. I actually notice it mostly in the first verse and then after that not so much.

Is the documentary out now? I doubt it will get a UK showing for ages so will need to grab it online.

Yeah it came out yesterday. I’m in the US but I haven’t watched it yet. I may have to sign up for a trial with Showtime just to watch it. I’ve seen a lot of rave reviews so far.

Documentary is very good. It has some great interviews with people that I hoped would be in it. Don't expect much from the period after the original break-up.

Did they talk to Paula Jean Brown?

By the way, The Go-Gos appeared on Entertainment Tonight last night. I never watch that show, but happened to catch it. They talked to the band members and played a bit of the new tune.

I hope this is a Caffey original. Or a Wiedlin tune. Or by Caffey-Valentine.

One of the best things about this group was they penned their hits themselves and didn't bring in those corporate-driven Perrier-drinking "songwriting teams" to bolster their compositions. Their first three albums really hold up. Their pop-punk-surf sound was theirs. They needed no outside help, save for the producers they used.

I like that the new tune draws parallels to Avril Lavigne and others who were influenced by them, even if it was second- or third-hand.

Enjoyed the new song which would not sound out of place on the last Go.Go's album (that was a quick 20 years!). Just listened to an interview with Jane Wiedlin who apparently started the song, and brought in Charlotte Chaffey to help out, and she also name checked Kathy Valentine so it's a real group effort. Eager to watch the documentary which is getting great reviews.

Great to hear a new Go-Go's song!! Catchy and rocking!

Yes it has all the hallmarks of modern recording:
    Belinda's autotuned voice
No sense of space in the mixing and mastering
    Loud

It was co-written by Wiedlin, Caffey, Valentine, and Anna Waronker.

Apparently the film is rather superficial and disappointing. Mediocre review in today's SF Chronicle.

In addition to “Club Zero,” Anna Waronker co-wrote “I Think I Need Sleep” from the “God Bless the Go-Go’s” sessions, which was criminally left off of the main track list. It’s a better song than the the majority of that album. I think she’s Charlotte Caffey’s sister in law or something like that.

I watched the documentary this afternoon and it lived up to my expectations. I thought it was great. I really appreciate that even the people who have reason to have sour grapes with the band are included, including original bassist Margot and manager Ginger. A lot of the most surprising and hard-hitting info I had already learned from Kathy Valentine’s fantastic memoir, but even so, I was glued to the screen.
