I’m going to clean it up and see if it works. Has what looks like a broken stock stylus. This was on the side of the road in a college neighborhood where kids are moving out...hoping some kid thought the whole thing was trash once the stylus broke.:D I have a Shure 97mxe w/ Jico Sas On a Technics 1200 that I’ll transfer to this table...once I figure out how!

What is that thing screwed in on the upper left corner? Every photo I’ve seen on this model is without that. Also, this has some weight to it! Seems well built.

It's the base for a Dust Bug similar to this one:

It looks like you have the one made by Audio Technica:

Interesting. So I can just remove that base, I assume. It looks like this model is from 1979. I’ve read some really good things about it. I may have struck a bit of gold, if working properly.

You can try loosening the adhesive with a hairdryer.

That Pioneer 220 cart with no actual stylus is an AT-3401 conical, you could replace the stylus with that or any that fit the common AT95E cart (not VM series), which would be an exact fit.

Can this thing be potentially better than my 1200? Any time I’ve acquired anything top of the line Pioneer, it’s led me to audio nirvana. My DV-79AVi is my all-time favorite piece of hi-fi equipment I’ve ever owned, shortly followed by my VSX-D1S, so yeah—a little biased here. But that automatic cue turns me off... :sigh:

Wow. Funny thing, I set my Pioneer TT outside by the road over in college town while I was getting some Ice Cream from the Ice Cream truck across the street.
You don't by any chance remember a really noisy and obnoxious music blaring Ice Cream truck being across the street when you found this do you?

Why would that turn you off? It's the most gentle auto mechanism ever made. You'll probably love it. Split the difference - you set the stylus down, let it return the arm and stop after the side is finished.
The 1200 M3D has a slightly better build than than this, including more torque, "they say". But I doubt you'll hear any difference when using the same cart/stylus.

Pick up your hatchet from your toolbox, go for the platter and voilà, problem solved.
    Next question please.

The auto start is flaky. It doesnt move far enough over, and won’t lower. Manual up and down works, however. Ehh..not sure it’s worth the hassle of taking the cartridge off of my 1200.

Ehh... I sure wouldn't. Instead you may do some research and get a replacement stylus on eBay or something for 20.00.

You can adjust where the auto start lowers, but I only raise and lower the tonarm with the button. I don't use auto start

Remove the mat and there may be finger holes to lift with.

Yeah, I knew to do that. My Technics is the same way, except it’s easy to remove.

I don't know this table, but some mass produced models used to have their platters clipped onto the spindle with a circlip.

I just ordered a new unopened stock pn-220 for $20. Easy swap to see if the table works. Now, if I can just get that platter off! Curious to see if the transport screws are still attached.

Have you tried a gentle tap on the platter near the spindle?
