Wilford was also on a television show called Our House from 1986-1988.

I agree, and that's in no way intended as a knock against the guy. He always seemed much older than what he was, due to him playing older/senior characters when he was younger than what his characters would have been.

I remember that series, and actually, other than the Quaker Oats commercials, that was the first thing that popped into my head when I read of his passing, not his much more known role in "Cocoon".

A lot of folks forget his Star Wars connection, starring in the side project Battle For Endor. Which is seriously intense for young children.

I think I first saw Brimley in The Waltons in the '70s, but I first really noticed him in Absence of Malice, 10 to Midnight and The Hotel New Hampshire. I was incredulous when I found out he was only 49-50 when he filmed Cocoon.

Very sad news. For an actor, Wilford always seemed so real and genuine. Apart from his numerous roles in films, I enjoyed his guest appearances in the 90s on "Seinfeld" and "Walker Texas Ranger." RIP Mr. Brimley

Sad news, always enjoyed his work. The Thing will always be my favourite film of his, but it always made me smile when he showed up in other movies. Only a few days ago I watched Charles Bronson's 10 to Midnight for the first time and it was a delight to see him appear as Bronson's boss. RIP

I remember for awhile in the 1980s my cable network had WBSK out of Boston. Sunday mornings they had someone with a half hour Show that interviewed.actors. Brimley, promoting “Cocoon 2”, came off as a jerk (the two young people interviewed were pleasant). Perhaps it was a bad day.
Leslie Nielsen was even funnier in the show he was interviewed than in any of his movies which is saying something

Wilfred Brimley and Robert Redford were very close in age (approximately 2 years)
