Agreed. Plus, there were a lot of Beatles songs in the later years that were more or less solo Beatles songs (see: The White Album), so Imagine would have totally worked as a Beatles song, even if John was the only one to sing and play on it.

Some peole like to create imaginary band albums from the solo material. It's fun, I get that. However, if I tried to create a best-of compilation (20-30 tracks) of the Beatles recordings and a best-of compilation of the later solo material, I'd have a hard time finding a track recorded by the band that should make room for anything from the solo compilation.

I'd say there's a handful that could be substituted by the best of the solo material...but I didn't think we were talking in terms of actually replacing.

Well, for me the idea of replacing Beatles track on a compilation with a solo track is a way how to get clear about the subject.

No. That "even if I get a medal from a local neighborhood" line is SO cringey, I couldn't imagine John ever letting that one on a Beatles record.

I think Happy Xmas (War Is Over) would have made a good Beatles song, with the other 3 Fabs working their magic on there. I could easily see George adding a tasty slide guitar part too.

I understand. I do the same thing. To be clear my laughter was squarely directed at the other poster, not you.

Plenty I can think of, particularly early-mid 70s gems from all four, but a later, perhaps under the radar pick would be “Somedays” from Flaming Pie.

I said this already in the current Flaming Pie thread, but had that song been on, say, Revolver, I think it would be as highly regarded today as, for example, “Here, There and Everywhere” or perhaps even “Eleanor Rigby.”

Really, while I find it an uneven album overall, Flaming Pie has several songs (Including the title song) that would’ve been excellent Beatles tracks.

LOL, that would be, um, interesting.

"Not Guilty" didn't make the cut though, so I doubt "How Do You Sleep?"would make the cut either.

I choose, "When We Was Fab" and "It Don't Come Easy... maybe even "New Blue Moon."

    I don't know about that?
    It's already a stunner!
But a Lennon lyric like "sitting on a corn flake" could and is on a Beatles record, talk about cringey?? Seems McCartney was much more forgiving and generous than Lennon.

The Beatles made plenty of songs together which would be considered naff if they weren't The Beatles.

Doesn’t everybody want the double A side single of “Silly Love Songs” and “Woman” as done by the Beatles?

The charisma of The Beatles permeated into their recordings....hence. A number of songs that were just "Ok" were elevated to near excellence because of it.
