My understanding is that it includes original US mixes, not authorised by the Beatles at the time. It seems that people who grew up with those versions love it and almost every one else hates it.
Gotcha. That is very disappointing for you. Unfortunately, Amazon is not setup for the traditional bricks & mortar return policy. They are after minimal touch, and the path of least resistance, with tiny resource allocation to this kind of thing (which is why they get so much stick in the media). They won't check returns (you know those videos online where people buy an entire pallet of Returns for resale? that's what happens to this stuff - it gets 'thrown out', generally, or handed to professional 3rd party resellers - especially in the States). So I sympathise - but you won't get this level of service from Amazon. Period.
The original USA release were very different to the UK/Australian releases in that not only were they different covers/track listing, Capitol Records we given the Master Tapes and proceeded to remix them and in many cases added a heap of reverb. They also often left in chit chat etc before & after tracks. This USA 2014 release is only different in album names, covers & track list, but the music itself is the same as the UK/Aust releases, ie no Capitol Record Tampering. To get the original Capitol Releases on CD you need to find the 2 Volumes of Boxes released in 2004.
You get The Beatles Story which I've never listened to and you can marvel how the Americans spread Beatles For Sale over three LPs. Plus you get everything up to Revolver (excluding The Beatles Story) in mono as well.

Here's some interesting prices from a third party seller: The Beatles - Stereo Box (16CD) - $129 + $19 delivery https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/offer-listing/B002BSHWUU/ Bob Dylan - The Complete Albums Collection (47CD) - $130 +$19 delivery https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/offer-listing/B00F6Y3FKW/ Looks a bit dodgy but you never know....
I had a delivery that was actually well packed and had no damage to the two records in the box. Lots of pillows, records tucked under the box flap to stop them moving around, etc. I was so shocked, I sent an email to Amazon customer service complimenting them and asking that my thanks get passed on to the worker who prepped the order. I received a reply today thanking me for the feedback and assuring me it will never happen again .
Yes indeed. Have a look at his shopfront if you want to know which box sets have counterfeit versions available.
