I notice Max Headroom (Matt Frewer) as the judge! He's good at these 'old-timey' roles. He was also in "The Knick"!
But that was the point of bringing in the other iconic character who met with Perry in the diner: Perry didn't have to study. Because the bar exam hadn't changed for years, he only had to take notes from the new character about the questions and answers, memorize them, and then go take the exam. JohnK
Anyone who has dealt with passing the state bar exam to practice law will tell you there's a little more to it than that. I think this was done way too easily and in a big hurry in the show. It's a cheap, convenient story shortcut, and it detracted from an otherwise good series.
Della Street is really ON the street! I haven't watched a full episode yet but have loved the glimpses I'm seeing of the first two! The day after I happened upon an old Raymond Burr episode and thought how freaked out those characters would be in the HBO series!
Ah...they could have stolen some establishing scenes from the Paper Chase and thrown some more money to Bryan Cox to play a John Houseman-esqie law professor!
I'm loving the series so far. Sure, it starts off slow and every time each episode ends, I'm left having to anticipate the next episode, obviously. Dad is enjoying it too and oh man, Mum would have loved this show as well... So yes, it's a slow burn, but it's really getting better IMHO! Glad to hear a 2nd Season has been greenlit.
I saw the first episode -as a free teaser on ROKU channel. I will stick to the classic TV show with Raymond Burr. I am not saying this show may not develop into an interesting story-but I am not ready to give up on the mature Mason character from a ( clean) legacy show.
waaaayyyy tooooooo slooowwwwww.........gave up long ago and do not miss it at all, and there is really nothing else on so i must really not like it.
juuuuuuuuust the right speeeeeeeeeeeeed...one of the best new shows on television & I can't wait for the second season.
Had it's ups and downs. The women stole the show - Della and Sister Alice. The judge was also the truck driver in Fear The Walking Dead. Quick question - what did the note say in the liquor bottle?? Loved the jazzy music hope they put it out on something.
I guess that is right! But I grew up with the old show and it is hard to accept the new one. But hey......
I loved this show, the period detail and the superb supporting characters really helped make it as good as it is. Particularly liked Shea Wigham as Strickland and Juliet Rylance as Della but really they were all great. Really looking forward to a second season One observation, it seems that these kind of slow burning series really divide opinion here, the recent show the Outsider elicited much the same opinions that I've seen in this thread Spoiler And I'm so glad Ennis got his in the end, what a b*stard he was!
This was a slow burn of a series. After episode 3 I was doubting that I would continue watching. After being busy the past month, I binged the rest of the season and to me, it needs to be watched that way. Its slow pace really highlights plot twists and events that happen in the show. Maybe that was done by design, but I really enjoyed the series after making a day out of watching it.
