Saw it again last night. Blu Ray. I never tire of this tour de force. It has everything: action, romance, comedy, history, intrigue! Recommended!

All you need to sell it are 3 words: Dick Van Dyke in a flying car.

I can't put my finger on it but for some reason I don't really like the movie even though I wanted to like it. It has Dick van Dyke, Sherman Brothers and a flying car. Since I really love Mary Poppins, this seemed like a sort of attempt at a pseudo-sequel (along with Bed knobs and Broomsticks, which I enjoy a lot more. The songs vary in quality with Me ol' Bamboo just being a reskin of Step in Time. Hushabye Mountain is great though but the overal soundtrack lacks the punch or joy MP had. Maybe that's an unfair comparison but I feel that even when listened without that comparison the soundtrack's not that great.
I find the movie itself a bit slow and boring.

To me, both Bed knobs and Broomsticks and Mary Poppin Returns are better "sequels" to MP. They have more joy, more care. CCBB feels like they tried to hard to copy MP and forgot to put their own soul into the movie.

Probably my favorite movie as a kid, but damn, that child catcher haunted me for years! Still creeps me out to this day.

Definitely not. Im not sure what I would call the best movie ever, but certainly not Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

I am confident that it would not make my top 1,000 films. Didn’t care for it as a kid, and I don’t see it through the prism of nostalgia now.

It irritates me slightly that questions about the film regularly crop up in quizzes in the U.K. There is an assumption here that it’s something you are supposed to know well and revere; not me.

It was good. I don't think it was the best ever, but it was good.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a movie I remember loving as a kid - "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is on TV this week! Do we have popcorn?" - but catching up with it later, wasn't as good as I remembered (you know, like Doctor Doolittle with Rex Harrison). It's not for lack of trying, though - Cubby Broccoli brought some of his James Bond creative team into the production, so the sets and locations are imaginative, the editing excellent, and Gert "Goldfinger" Frobe brings the ham to pair with Dick Van Dyke's cheese.

Oh - and the Child Catcher was still genuinely creepy, too.

...Do the Brits complain about D. Van Duke's British accent in CCBB like they do about his accent in Mary Poppins?

There was another kid a few years later who taught me The Boid.
We were in the back of a station wagon his mom was driving and
he was giving The Finger to the car following us.

"Here, just push your middle finger between these two
    and stick it out."

I don't think we got caught. How many school bus kids did that
to me when I was driving? Plenty enough.

I never understood the appeal of this movie. I tried to watch it several times and was bored to death each time. Even as a kid it stuck me as flat and bland.

I think the movie has some value but it is slow. It takes much longer to go where it needs to go!

I saw this in theater as a kid. I just drove by what used to be that theater the other day.
