I do believe it will come out this year. I never expected HOMEGROWN to be released this year or ever but he did and gave me hope for archives 2.

Here's a helpful analogy about the 'release' of Archives II:

Neil Young = Lucy Van Pelt
Many on this thread anticipating an actual release = Charlie Brown
    Archives II = Football

this was posted in the Deja Vu 50th anniversary thread. NY Archives 2 is mentioned.

The problem that may cause upcoming major label CD,DVD & Blu-ray music boxed sets to be postponed into 2021 or 2022 or cancelled isn’t manufacturing the discs. Those discs were always pressed under “Clean Room” conditions. The workers always wore masks & gloves. The more serious issues are the fabricating and printing of the packaging elements that are typical of major label boxed sets (10″ x 10″ and 12″ x 12″ boxes and slipcases, hardback & paperback books, posters and memorabilia reproductions), the closing of many mastering facilities, and the millions of unemployed consumers who won’t be able to afford the products.
It is more than boxed sets of “The Beatles-Let It Be” and the earliest John Lennon & George Harrison solo albums that are at stake, but also the following projects that are known to be in development:
    The Rolling Stones-Goats Head Soup
    Queen-The Miracle
Genesis-The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
    The Who Sell Out
    The Doors-Morrison Hotel
    Marillion-Fugazi
Crosby Stills Nash & Young-Deja Vu
    Bruce Springsteen-Tracks 2
    Neil Young-Archives Vol.2(1972-1976)
The Beach Boys-5-disc set, tentatively titled “Feel Flows”
Cream-Wheels of Fire (+ additional concert recordings)
The Doobie Brothers-Quadio (Blu-ray audio box)
    Bob Dylan-The Bootleg Series Vol.16
And, of course, future archival projects by Jimi Hendrix, The Kinks, Steve Miller Band and (astonishingly) the firsr-ever release of archival material by Joni Mitchell.
Not surprisingly, all the upcoming (late August) boxed sets from the Cherry Red group of labels feature small, simple packaging (mini album covers in a clamshell box). And large format boxes from Gonzo multimedia (America & Trevor Rabin) have been postponed. The issue is obviously printing and fabricating the packaging materials.
Keep us up to date on the situation.

I saw a list on Wikipedia I think? Not sure if it is accurate, as predicting any sort of future release schedule as it relates to NY is akin to trying to guess how many angels you can fit on the head of a pin...

i saw that and it lists 17 live releases. my guess is it ends up being about 25 live releases and 10 special release series albums

The spine on Hitchhiker is numbered as Special Release Series 5, and Homegrown is SRS 2, and strangely enough, Paradox is SRS 10! And so it’s mathematically possible that you’re right at least. That’s as good a guess as any when it comes to Neil!

Also keep in mind that there's also been some Archive related discs numbered Vol 00 and Vol x.5 so, I'd imagine that even Neil doesn't really know how many discs the Archives will ultimately encompass, since he's been cramming some .5 Volumes in between properly numbered Volumes.

To be fair, the chap you quote is very knowledgeable but does tend to look on the negative side.

will there still be 5 volumes? if he stops with all the duplication of fully released stuff outside of the boxset i don't see why we'd need more than 5 volumes. including "some" of the highlights from already released material is ok. maybe that should take up 3 discs worth of the boxsets but if the other cd's are maybe 4 discs of unreleased material and 3 unreleased concerts 5 would be enough. make some live albums exclusive to the boxsets and release the rest as standalones

Do people so badly want a physical CD set collecting all the things that are already available for streaming/purchased downloads AND vinyl, they'll cast aspersions on the content itself and bemoan how unfairly their chosen format has been sidelined?
