Do you mean the HMV flash sale? I had a look last night but it wasn’t great. As you say, the website kept failing, though I did have a bit better luck using my PC browser, rather than my iPhone.

There didn’t seem to be much in the way of stone cold bargains. To me, most things looked like they’d been artificially doubled in price before applying the 50% code, so not really half-price at all.

The best thing I saw was this box set of 7 x psychedelic 7” singles. I bought it from Amazon a few weeks ago for £34.99, which I thought was great value at the time. So £17.50 is a bargain, in my eyes.

A Kaleidoscope of Sounds: Psychedelic & Freakbeat Masterpieces | 7" Vinyl Single Box Set | Free shipping over £20 | HMV Store

Sadly sold out now, but worth keeping an eye on in case they locate more stock.

Ah cool, what did you pick up if you don’t mind me asking?

I had the 2LP version of The Band - Music from Big Pink in my cart, but then the site crashed again so I gave up!

For US shoppers, Amazon.uk is allowing standard shipping again. I placed an order today at the same rates as before (£3.08 for first item and £0.99 for additional ones). Some of the items on my wish list show the £3.08 shipping cost, while most show £14.38. But even the £14.38 items allow the cheaper shipping. For the few preorders I looked at, those with long lead times still don't allow shipping to the US.

With the increase in USPS rates on July 1st, I'm surprised standard shipping costs didn't go up (yet).

I just attempted to buy the Richard and Linda Thompson - Hard Luck Stories box on amazon.co.uk. But I never noticed an "exchange rate guarantee fee" before. And advice about this from those in the US who buy from amazon.co.uk?

I always pay in pounds with a credit card that has no transaction fees. The exchange rate Amazon.uk uses is always worse than the current bank rate.

I think the "exchange rate guarantee fee" is just an extra fee they charge you in case the rate goes higher between the time you place the order and the time they ship. It sounds like they are giving you the privilege of locking in the rate, but it is only guaranteeing that they don't lose money due to the rate fluctuating in your favor.

Apart from the Cannonball everything pictured is legit Universal sourced product, a bit expensive for a lucky dip, but fine if you did get the pictured LPs.

Consensus is that they're remaindered overstocks from the DeAgostini part-series, so the quality should be pretty good.

Where the DeAgostini stuff ever sold on zavvi/online shops outside of the local newsagents/DeAgostini though?

I'd be happy spending the 30 quid on 10 random ones of those but not on some cd sourced public domain label stuff.
