The 50th anniversary of this seminal album is coming. What can we expect? What should be on it that is not circulating, or not circulating in ideal quality? Anybody have anything not in the possession of the band that they'd care to admit owning??

Since Morrison Hotel was announced, I figure we should start one up for L.A. Woman.

This is one where some video should be included. I believe some of the rehearsals were filmed.

They only did a few gigs before it was released, and some of it is already out there, but the Beat The Boots box set is out of print. Just sayin...

For starters, how about the 5CD set that was scheduled for the 40th but ended up being cancelled.

If you can sell out of a Stooges Fun House CD box and a vinyl box it seems that a Doors LA Woman sessions might do ok..

  6. I expect a comic book. Sadly I’m not joking.

Fixed It, but a Cajun Woman sounds fine to me.

That ship sailed a decade ago. I think it is doubtful a box set of that magnitude will be contemplated again. If Warner couldn't justify it in 2010, it is difficult to imagine Warner giving the band the green light for a project of that scope ten years later given the current state of music retail. One suspects the band will cap off the anniversary series sets with an LA Woman box set consisting of 1 remastered CD, 1-2 CDs of bonus material, and 1 vinyl reproduction. The band already issued 1 CD of outtakes, plus additional outtakes from the Workshop release, and a few downloadable bonus tracks from various websites, so one would think they won't want to regurgitate too much of that material on the upcoming box set, which will naturally pare it down.

I will look into info for the 50th, and post here. If the 40th got far enough, I might be able to see what was supposed to be on it as well.

Man! Did they nail Hyacinth House on 1 take! The only 2 versions out there is the 1966 demo at Robbie’s house and the studio take on LAW, I need to be fed more!

Yeah, I always wondered if there are some missing tapes (which is a distinct possibility with The Doors). It seems unlikely that they nailed a song after one take. They were not a one-take band in the studio based on their history, and one suspects it was no different with Hyacinth House.

Maybe they have saved us new Robbie bongo overdubs on the studio version.

I think it's going to be an auto pilot release. What they should do is include a dvd version of HWY. They could also do a Heavy Metal (1981) movie style animated soundtrack with the Doors as characters, piecing in their real voices for dialog.

Standing by for more disappointment and heart ache as you know it could be done better.
Probably in a box or format totally out of keeping with the rest of the 50ths, not that there has been any consistency so far.
Seems like there is a , and that's there is no plan

Vinyl is a certainty . I expect a replica of the original transparent album cover to be included.

I wouldn't mind owning that as My original lp is not in the best condition.

That’s a nice idea, my go to is a Columbia Pittman ‘71 with the cellophane window, I try to preserve my AP 45 the most with limited play.

    1966?

Absolutely this. Suspect there must be at least one more reel of stuff that was either not considered in 2010, or has been lost, or was being held back even then, with more takes of Crawlin’ King Snake, and some versions of Hyacinth House and Cars Hiss By My Window.

Not that we’re likely to see any of them any time soon....

    I agree unfortunately.

They didn't think a big LA Woman box would sell 10 years ago. Can't imagine they would go forward with it now.

You would think so, but unfortunately the "powers that be" when it comes to the Doors don't seem to think that.

Yea HH was one of their earliest jams that they recorded at Robbie’s house I believe 1966 was the year, I could be wrong.

I’m not sure about it being one of their earliest songs, to be honest. Firstly, I don’t ever remember seeing any hard evidence of when it was written, but the weariness, paranoia and longing for change in the lyrics would suggest a much later date of composition to me. Secondly (and this is by no means conclusive, given other errors of dating elsewhere in the catalogue), the song is listed on digital media as ‘Hyacinth House - Demo Recorded at Robbie Krieger's Home Studio, 1969’.
