Although Welsh, man was commonly compared to quicksilver messenger service. John cipollina even played with them.

Here's how it works: People from the United States and Canada are North American. People from Brazil and others are South American. People from Mexico and others are Central American People from Canada are Canadian People from Brazil are Brazilians People from Mexico are Mexicans Here's where it gets tricky. People from the United States (of America) are not United Statsian or United States of American (no such things). So they default to American without the North/South/Central which broader categories as defined above. Hope this helps.
Pat Boone would be a better american analog for Cliff Richard. also America has Cat Power and the Brits have Beth Orton
I’d argue Fairport Convention = Jefferson Airplane. Both replaced female lead vocalist with an icon after 1st album. Also, early Fairport was very American focused in their material (ironically, given what came later).
As far as I know, people from Mexico are North American too, but they are also Latin American like the rest of the continent.
Yes, and Cliff's "Devil Woman" is a parallel universe equivalent of Pat's "In A Metal Mood" in that it started off as a pop song and got covered as a metal song.
