A crooked seller can also request a neutral feedback be removed.

There is an art to leaving feedback to make it difficult to get it removed.

No feedback system really works 100% of the time as they are all prone to abuse in some way. Seller feedback on eBay's can't be trusted either, though it does have detailed ratings for condition, shipping time and communication, which does give it an edge.

I take feedback with a grain of salt these days even if it's at 100%.

Plus the most significant fact that Ebay don't allow sellers to retaliate by leaving negative feedback for buyers.

Some helpful hints in leaving feedback:

    1) Stick to simple facts
    2) Do not use words like cheat, thief, crook, etc. Ever.
    3) Do not mention feedback, EVER, in ANY email to a seller on eBay. EVER. If you do, your feedback can TRIVIALLY be removed and you can even have your account suspended.
    4) Do not mention any third party EVER--that will give the seller an out (UPS, USPS, FedEx, PayPal, etc.)
    5) Stay away from words that impune character like "stole", "ripped off", etc.
5a) Try to phrase in a way that explains the problem without impugning character: "Unpleasant interaction" is better than "Unpleasant seller".

Yes, sticking to simple facts and writing unemotionally is the best bet. I can only remember having to leave negative feedback on Discogs one time, and it went something like this:

"CD listed as NM, but had lots of scuffs. Seller defended his grading, would only offer a small partial refund. Not acceptable to me."

If you have to wait and calm down before you write it up, then do that. In the end, that type of feedback is MUCH more likely to stick if the seller complains to them. AND you'll have a good shot at getting retaliatory feedback removed.

PLUS: make sure you give the seller a chance to make things right before you post feedback. If you don't, you're in violation of Discogs policy and your neg can be removed for that reason alone.

Since the Internet began in 1996 I've never had a bad transaction anywhere on the internet....even on Discogs...until this July. It just got resolved. This merchant, from Poland was the worst I've ever dealt with
I called him a Narcisit on my negative feedback and he got them to take it down. Meanwhile the disputed payment through Paypal finally got to the merchant and he still has his negative review on my account. I have a 97% with 33 transaction and 1 negative review and I'm also pissed at Discogs.

BTW don't do business with this guy
    PasjonatWachholza

It says 97% but read those negatives and neutrals.....if you end up having a problem with him, its never his fault.

I am not trying to cast blame on you, but he has Negs going back way back, lots of neutrals, and he retaliates when anyone posts honest and less than positive FBs. So many items he has sold and not been able to come through with the item. No shipping updates are given to his buyers and his stuff is over-priced pretty consistently.

I am surprised you would bother with a loser like this. But on the bright side, it will teach you to look good at seller's feedback before hit the buy button, or before paying at least.

This is good. Also, I try and keep it very short, and you provide the solution, such as: Refund payment, please. If it says "Seller Does Not Accept Returns" then simply do not offer to return, just state please refund due to item not as described, or item defective or broken.

I have found that when I am nice and thank them for quick shipping, and ask for a refund I get it nearly instantly. Most people don't want a ding with even PayPal. PayPal can put a whammy on a seller just like ebay can.

Well, the original seller now has 100% positive feedback since apparently they got Discogs to remove further negative feedback they had received for taking forever to ship. So there you go, an absolutely awful but stellar Discogs seller.

I like the idea behind Discogs, however it is being run very poorly.

I wanted the CD and he was at 97% positive. My mistake was not mis-evaluating his response to the negatives. I generally do....like I said I had a perfect record until this guy just gave me a bad review....even though paypal finally gave him the money after the dispute.

Just a follow up on my issue....I went ahead and challenged his bad review and Discog emailed me today saying they removed it because :
The feedback from xxxxxx on Order xxxxxxx has been removed because it did not comply with our guidelines. The feedback will not appear on your account and will not affect your buyer or seller rating score.

I think he violated rule #6
    Buyer & Seller Feedback FAQ
Because he wrote the following negative feedback:
picked up the parcel but did not notify the credit card issuer that he received the package and 13 days have passed, the dispute continues

When he wrote "The dispute Continues" that violated rule #6

Actually what happened was he never sent me a tracking number...told me it would arrive in 1 month from Poland.
1 month goes by and it didn't arrive....asked him to send me a tracking number and the tracking number says that date...meaning he forgot to send the package and sent it out on that date I nudged him.
Waited another 6 weeks and it still did not arrive....so I called my credit card company (Rather than Pay Pal) and filed a dispute.
Another 1.5 weeks goes by and the cd arrives....I immediately call my credit card company and they remove the dispute........however it doesn't show up on Paypal's end (Merchant used Paypal for transaction)
And it took them 1.5 months to release the funds to the merchant. BTW the merchant said he never received the funds.

So now I'm back to 100% good reviews on discog. Which is what I deserve because I pay everyone immediately.

I hear you! I ordered 2 cd's from a seller (who owns a record store) on October 8. After 8 days I messaged them because it still said Payment Pending, even though I paid when I ordered!
They respond a day later saying that they don't sell many cd's anymore and they had trouble locating the cd's I ordered!
They do have 3,000 cd's listed on discog.
They finally updated the order to shipped 7 days ago. But the tracking still says Pre-shipment , Shipping Label Created, USPS Awaiting Item.

Whatever, it's only a $12 dollar order. Still, how hard is it to ship out something?

As I said, you're undoubtedly leaving things out. I have a very hard believing this whole story as you've written it. Considering your clear bias in all things Discogs since these events took place, it likely will be next to impossible to get the full story.

There are horrible and terrific sellers on Discogs and every other platform. Also very strange that you'd single out the platform and not name the seller instead.

An atrocious seller now has 100% positive feedback despite having abused at least two other buyers and myself. Feedback ratings on Discogs mean absolutely nothing. Further, you won't receive any support from the platform itself should something go wrong.

Again, I like the concept of Discogs and do enjoy it greatly, however it's a high risk environment.

It isn't and you're stating ridiculous things. At this point, you're just looking like someone with an ax to grind.

I've been on it longer than you and never encountered anything of the kind in any way. Move on with your life and quit posting nonsense.

Been forced to go more to discogs this year. A few tips.... only buy from 99.9% or 100% rated sellers..... and even then, read through a feedback. Neutral feedback tells a lot some times which may raise red flags for a 100% seller. Also be suspicious of over grading when the sleeve is listed as VG but the record is listed as NM..... sleeve is VG for a reason. Ask seller questions.... most are happy to help quickly.

Feedback on eBay isn't much better. All sellers, even those with 100% feedback scores, should be looked at with caution on both sites.

That payment pending status is a constant source of annoyance, but it should disappear under the new rules (you would hope anyway). If you read the marketplace forums there are so many buyers who will post that they paid but the status has not changed. It's a manual process but it's not really made clear that it is.

I've had orders arrive before the status even changed to shipped, thought that only happened a couple of times.

You can't rely on this much either. Something I was looking at to buy the seller only had a 96% rated feedback. The reason "why" was because he/she only had 59 transactions so that 1 negative and 1 neutral seriously dropped their rating. Something else I've run into as well is the seller receiving either negative or neutral feedback for their customers package taking so long to arrive in our 2020 travel times from Hell scenario. Just inconsiderate and not the sellers fault from where I sit. :agree: Definitely read all of the sellers feedback before taking the plunge.

As a seller, I do not leave any feedback for buyers until they have first left their feedback for me. It at least gives me the illusion that I have a chip to play if someone leaves me negative feedback. I have had one negative feedback. I did not hear back from the "buyer" but did not leave them negative feedback and ultimately discogs did remove the negative rating as a rules violation. I'm not sure if I had immediately left negative feedback for the buyer that would have gone in my favor.

As a buyer I feel this is unfair. If I purchased and paid, I should get positive feedback on it. Feedback should be given and not held back as bargaining chip. If I don't get feedback from a seller when I paid instantly, then they are not getting one from me. Why bother if they can't or don't want to?
