Just curious if I were to set some LPs to use GSP if they would repackage my own packing?

The reason I ask is even registered air mail is no longer providing tracking to certain countries, for instance I sent something to Australia only to find out that entering the registered number on usps.com shows it can't be tracked, but the buyer was honest. This was not the case many years ago when I sent something there.

I can't answer your GSP question, but why would they?

What you're describing has been an issue for a few years now from my recollection. USPS can't access other countries postal tracking systems even for your next door neighbours up here. Other countries postal systems must inform them by updating. Most times this doesn't happen for obvious reasons.

Why would they, they don't care. Sent to Australia U.S. USPS customs numbers work for me. A lot of countries don't scan it. Canada is 50-50. eBay is buried in lying crooked buyers who can't wait for no tracking numbers to a reversal.

My understanding is that about 20% of the items sent to the eBay GSP center are repacked before being sent on to their final destination.

That sounds bizarre, as registered mail is the most absolutely secure method of sending anything.

But I sent a parcel to Australia in the beginning of this year via first class international, and that was tracked all the way through.

The new system of registered air mail has gotten rid of the LC xxxxxxx US customs number that could track to certain countries. Now it is just the RH xxxxxxxx US customs number.

It still uses the same customs form, but there is no LC customs number.

I sold an expensive record to Russia wich was sent through Ebay Global Shipping. This was before WW III was evident to begin so it had already been taking more time due to covid. Now they finally inform me that it is undeliverable months later.I called Ebay to double check and was told the refund to the buyer was covered by Ebay not me.:sweating:
The record may even be returned to me.I don’t care about that and do not sell much.I’m just relieved they covered me for once.

For what it's worth, this exact scenario happened to me about a year ago. Ebay customer service initially told me the exact same thing, about a week later the case was "resolved" in the buyers favor, and eBay stuck me with the bill. After another phone conversation the latest customer service rep told me the previous Rep was misinformed and that is not the case. I honestly believe ebay customer service will lie and tell you the answer you want to hear until the last stop and then that person buries you with the truth. I have had it happen to me several times in the past couple of years, all unique situations. I think it's easier that way and nobody wants to own the bad news until it's unavoidable. But everyone's experience is different, especially disappointing because I don't believe the GSP allows for the option to add tracking even for an extra cost.

The same thing happened to me, because the buyer opened a claim (though tracking reflected a successful delivery). :sweating:

My understanding is that they do often repackage items. I have no direct experience with this in either direction.

Yes, this is why I ONLY ship via eBay's Global Shipping Program. Once the item safely arrives at their US shipment center, you are indemnified for any shipping issues going forward, including loss/damage.

Note that you are not indemnified for SNAD (Significantly Not as Described) cases. Just cases where the issue is delivery or damage in transit.

I had a scammer try to complain about a promo VHS tape (he sent me a blurry photo that showed no identifying details of a smashed tape). He kept bugging me to "negotiate something" because of the "problem". I told him that because I'd sent it via eBay Global Shipping, it was out of my hands, and that he should contact eBay noting damage in transit. To my knowledge, he didn't--but in any event that issue went away.

If I had shipped it myself, I'd be on the hook.

Yes, the Global Shipping Program is more expensive for the buyer. Maybe I lose some sales because of that. But I sleep more soundly.

Since switching to eBay Global Shipping, I've never had to deal with a single buyer complaining about shipping issues to me. Before I switched, that wasn't the case.

And I've never had to deal with a single case where tracking to the destination wasn't available.

"Lose some sales"? If the buyer wants one album they'll go with the $25 USPS (free insurance, just say you didn't get it and here comes the Paypal reversal) instead of a whopping $40+. I don't think I've ever seen an eBay seller with "I send only Global Shipping" and what an LP/DVD/CD costs to mail overseas next to it. Do what I do: "no overseas sales".....the $10 difference, or less, on completed auctions between an overseas bidder and domestic is not worth the "whats my tracking number?" from Rolf in Germany and Pierre in Paris and Luigi in Italy.
