I can see that happening and then they’ll return to the studio.

It's just gonna be soooooo weird without an audience. It's one thing to watch the late night hosts do comedy solo looking right into the camera, but doing scripted comedy? I dunno. The "at home" concept worked, but in a proper TV studio it's just going to be so strange.

But maybe they have some ideas that'll make it work. Either way, should be interesting!

    OK, but why a month?
    Is there a CDC guideline?
    Again, just curious.

Other network shows are starting production this month and next. I don't see why SNL can't do the same. Without an audience of course.

They could also pre-tape more stuff during week like they did in the Ebersol days to avoid less folks in the studio. At one point 75% of that show was taped back in the early 80's.

I don’t think the pre-recorded ratio was ever remotely that high except for the rare clip or theme show. They did a lot of field bits during the 84-85 season for sure, but it was still a mostly live show. And of course there was the live audience responding to the filmed bits, which they can’t do now.

I got that info from the old SNL book that came out years ago. I think they made a lot of it to look "live." Remember they were filming around Eddie Murphy's movie shoots.

  12. I actually preferred the at-home shows last season vs. the studio ones (the studio-based shows last season were very weak IMO).

They did do that, but during season 9, and only one sketch on weeks Eddie wasn't there.

Congrats to Ms. Nwodim. Great decision. SNL could use more cast members people of color. It's record and developing and keeping non-Caucasian cast members is not that great, Kenan being a terrific exception.

It would have been extremely difficult to audition and indoctrinate new cast members during Covid...

I found out on Wikipedia that it remains uncertain whether the show will feature a studio audience, or if it will feature hosts or musical guests performing from within the studio. The host and musical guest for the premiere are yet to be announced.
