Turns out that Michael Nesmith made that up for a magazine he confirmed it a few years ago. Shows you how far one little lie can go.

    made what up, record sales?

they had singles and albums at the top of the charts all the live-long year, they flooded the market and had a top TV show to boot

just going with the sales angle, which many on here lead with for "quality", that's all i claim

Mike is the type who would tell you he made it up, when he didn't, getting another headline

    Favourite group in 1967:
I mean I could say The Beatles but that’s a bit boring isn’t it. For me either between The Doors, The Monkees and Pink Floyd.

wait I forgot Love and The Zombies...hmm this is tricky

    The Beatles.
Pepper's my favourite album of all time and Magical Mystery Tour is up there too so it's an easy choice for me.
Special mention has to go to so many other bands, though... 1967 was a hell of a year.

Pink Floyd with their whimsical bit of genius; The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
The Doors with their unique brand of blues, rock and poetry in their debut and then the swirling psychedelic piece of gold that is Strange Days.
The Beach Boys with their rough but highly enjoyable, experimental Smiley Smile (and Wild Honey, which I haven't heard).
Love with their folk rock masterpiece; Forever Changes.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience blowing everyone's minds with Are You Experienced and Axis: Bold As Love...

and so, so, SO much more. I mean, how could it ever get any better than this?

Did The Zombies do anything special in '67?
Not being provocative; I'm legitimately curious. I thought Oddesey was their only real notable album, but I wouldn't know.

  21. 3 US Gold singles, 3 US Gold albums in '67

This is when it was done by dollar amount, rather than units sold, but yes they were on a roll

Well Mike Nesmith has since admitted that he made up the fact that they outsold The Beatles and The Stones to test the reporter after telling him that he was going to lie during the interview. Clearly he didn’t get the memo and now it’s plastered over news articles and Wikipedia pages.
